I had friends run with Goodyear Wrangles, Cooper tires. Today most guys I know ONLY run with BFG A/T. KO2’s. Great for the lava roads, floats on sand, quiet on the highways. On the muddy coffee land roads works great! Lava rocks can be nasty, sharp edges, the BFGs proven time after time.
Kona, Hawaii our highway roads are “hot” during the day, the heat eats tires. I being running only the BFGs A/T for over 30 years, it has never let me down.
I use to work for a magazine distributor, I would read all the off-road magazines. You will notice the number one tire that stands out is the BFGs A/T & MUD. It is a proven tire.
E- Rated today makes the tire even tougher, more protection. The ride can be a bit more stiffer then the C- rated. E- rated give a more peace of mind, driving on the lava fields.
I rarely go up to Mauna Kea when it snows, so I cannot tell how it performs in the snow at 13,800 feet.

    How's it?
I'm looking to get an Amp installed for the back of my 3rd Gen so that I can hear the rear speakers. Any suggestions of good places to go on Big Island--Kona area? Thanks

Try “Stealth Audio” over 20 years in the old industrial park.

The Big Island represents!!!!! I just returned from my first visit to Hawaii. I’ve never seen so many Tacomas. Every 10th vehicle was a Tacoma. I have a stiff neck from looking at them all, it was awesome. Here in the Seattle area about every 50th vehicle is a Tacoma. Thanks Big Island for a great visit, great people, great food, great weather and unbelievable beaches, see ya again soon.

Glad to hear you had a great trip on the Big Island of Hawaii . Population a little over 200,000 people.
Home of the highest mountain and largest mountain in the world from top to below sea level. The Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa mountain. Both still have snow on the tops. ( Feb 11, 2023). And Hilo town the rainiest city in America, over 112 inches of rain every year.

The Big island of Hawaii the reason for lots of Toyotas - Tacomas, 4-Runners ,besides ( reliability) , is we have lots of farmers, fisherman, hunters, and many areas you need a good 4x4.
Pig hunting ,bird hunting, goats, sheeps are wild and popular.(food) besides sporting. Many of our shoreline fishing you will need a good 4x4 and often the few popular spots a lifted vehicle makes it easier to get those fishing spots.

We live on a coffee farm on a hillside, a 4x4 is required just to get home and back up to the main highway. Yet only 15 minutes to town, 20 minutes to Costco and 30 minutes to the main airport.

Every island is a bit different. This island alone has 8 climates from desert to snow. And one of the worlds most active Volcanos.
    2001 4x4 Ford Ranger-farm only, 2001 4x4 Toyota Tundra, 2019 4x4 Toyota Tacoma LB , & 2020 4x4 Jeep Compass Trailhawk.
I am impress with my wife’s 4x4 Jeep Compass Trailhawk w/ BFG Trail Terrain tires. All the other 4x4 we run only a BFG All Terrain KO tires.

Toyota Tacomas 4x4 and 4-Runners 4x4 is most popular vehicles on the Big island.

Anybody went down Waipio Valley recently? Maybe somebody ask this already, I dnk. Hawaii County close the road for falling rocks, doing repairs. Only people who lives Waipio Valley can go? Resisents of Hawaii Island can? I born and raise Hilo, and I live Hilo.
