Cheap paint will work, use a good clear and use a bunch of coats. I would do two coats of black and about eight clear. If you can get it apart, it will look better than taping off the leather. I would put the sticker on before the clear and wet sand with some 2000 grit paper then polish and wax.

 

I tried taking it apart but it's all a single piece

 

Maybe a screw holding it from inside of the gearshifter hole?

I'm not constantly touching it though. I like to grab onto the shifter while I drive so the bare paint will always be contaminated with oil from my hands

This how I do cobbler

 

Lots of polished clear will hold up.

 

Just out of the oven. Got to wait about 10 mins or so for it to cool down before I know if it’s good or garbage.

 

I think he just does already. That’s why it’s all oily he said.
