Not really a vote for new but just sharing information on my experience and some of what I've learned along the way. To me it really just depends on what kind of deals you can find. I researched the crap outta them before I bought mine and followed the updates for a while on what was getting added. I have no intention of ever buying a 2018+ Tacoma even if I need to replace mine for unforeseen sad reasons. I bought mine the day after it was delivered with 3 miles on the odo and was the only person to test drive it. I originally really wanted a 2015 TRD OR 4x4. If I was shopping now I would take just about any 2013+ 2nd gen or another 2016/7 3rd gen in a sr5 or TRD package and add anything extra that I wanted like lockers.
Go test drive both models to see what they are like. Many poeple really dislike the way the skewp blocks a bunch of the view but I think thats the same for both 3rd and 2nd gens, Since you already have a skewp I wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt an issue. If planning to keep it mostly stock and not lifting it, then it depends on what suspension you like best. OR being softer it will have more body roll. The sports suspension is stiffer for better on road handling and less body roll. The SR5 is closer to the sport from my understanding but not as stiff. If you upgrade your suspension you can choose what you want. Mine is pretty stiff and has been with both lifts I have decided on upgrading with. Off road I hated how much the stock OR suspension would bounce which is why I've gone to a stiffer setup.
^This ^This ^This It was the biggest reason on why I bought my truck and is worth every penny I've sunk into it for the times I get out which is never enough, especially this year...

Gotcha, yeah the skewp took time getting use to but I'm definitely use to it now. It doesn't matter if I have it or not but I do like the look of it. My truck feels like it rides horrible but it probably just needs upgrades... I know I should definitely go test drive different options but...people lol. I hate pushy salesman so I'm putting it off. Lol. Thank you, you're definitely helping me look at all options.

Heck they want sales so bad right now you could probably communicate through email or phone and get them to bring the truck to you to test drive!
