you guys are out of control! haha I would definitely love to step into an f-250 diesel, I'll have to keep my eyes open, an 05-06 tundra would be cool, but im guessing they get real bad gas mileage, and are going to be an expensive truck to buy.

how is the room in the back of the 05+ tacoma ext cab for 2 adults?

Those front fiberglass fenders make that Tundra look mean as fuck from that angle. The rears are meh.

Much as I love the Tundra, fullsizes just can't hold a candle to midsize in sand/mud, and the maneuverability suffers too.

buy a T100 or a pre 2007 Tundra. The new body style tundras look like a cartoon clown car. I laugh every time I see one.

Or buy a Frontier or Suzuki Equator (they have huge discounts on them new)

Nothing funny about that.. their new trucks are lacking by all means.

Well, it IS a relevent question. If I was a salesman, I'd assume that someone looking at a truck designed to pull 15-20k lbs was towing SOMETHING. That being said, I don't tow more than about 6k at any time, and I still crave an F-250 again (we had a '00 5.4).

I think there is a good amount of room in the back of my AC. My buddy has one as well and we have both spent 6 hours plus in the back of them just fine. It seems like the AC has more leg room with the smaller seats and it allows the people in front not to be on the dash.

Their responses usually consisted of "you know diesels get really bad mileage unless you're towing, right?"

I always thought my double cab had enough room for 4 adults. I'm only 6'1, but my sisters b/f and my stepdad are both 6'3ish.

Well, if they said that, then they are idiots, and you're correct. I was under the assumption you were offended because they assumed you would be towing with a 3/4 ton diesel pickup, or essentially a mini-semi truck.

Statistically they are almost identical in terms of reliability, defects, etc.

How exactly do you define "better"? In all the categories that matter to me the numbers say the 2nd gen is right there with the first gen.

If you need a bigger/heavier truck for hauling and towing etc, then by all means get one. Nothing wrong with that. I know that I will eventually too, although I'll proably own a second gen before though.

Own what fits your lifestyle. A Taco fits me perfectly for what I do and would not own any other 'small' truck out there other than a Tacoma period.

The ride of a late model 3/4 ton or 1 ton is smoother than any Tacoma's I've owned. I traded my 2007 Lariat FX4 Powerstroke Crewcab for my 2010 Tacoma. The 2007 diesel only had 67k miles and had already blown EGR valve and cooler, got that repaired then blew a head gasket which is a cab off repair $$$$$$$. I love Powerstroke crewcabs but the 6.0 and the newer 6.4 diesels are junk. I wish I still had my 2002 Powerstroke with the 7.3 diesel those are 300k mile motors.

My brother has been a dealership mechanic for 20+ years at a dealership that has a Ford store on one corner, dodge store on 2nd corner and gm store on 3rd corner, the Showrooms are all seperate buildings obviously but the giant shop is shared by all the mechanics because all three dealerships are owned by the same man. All that being said if you have questions about any of the big three let me know.

I have attached photos of my 2007 (6" lift, Moto Metal wheels and 37" tires) rode better than my 2010 Tacoma.
I also attached one of my 2002 Black CC Ford with same 6" lift and 37" Swampers,Nerf bars,Ranch hand front bumper and 2k watt sound system with JL Audio subs sorry to ramble but I loved that truck.

I have no confidence in toyota engineering when it comes to the newer trucks (tacoma, tundra, FJ...)

various engineering design defects plague these trucks (front diff bearing, tranny, body rips) such that I don't anticipate these new trucks to hold up better over time than their predecessors that have been more time tested.

I had a 2003 Dodge 2500 4x4 auto with the Cummings and it was trouble free for 7 years. I sold it because I didn't need that big a truck anymore but if you needed to tow some thing big it was up to the job. It is now doing duty as a snow plow vehicle in Chicago getting salted and beat to sh*t. I saw it in the spring and it had white salt all under the hood and everywhere else. Made me sick.
BTW, it got 19-20 MPG around town and a little better on the highway. Best MPG I ever got was towing my 2002 Taco on a Uhaul dolly from NC to FL because I kept the speed under 70 MPH.
