Again, I doubt there will be any significant differences.

There are just as few problems with Toyotas as there have ever been. When you hang out on the web in a place like this it skews your perspective...this is the kind of place people with problems flock to.

Random samples (Consumer reports, etc.) show insignificant differences in problems with 2nd gens compared to the ratings 1st gens got when they were being sold.

Drawing opinions from internet forums instead of proper testing is ill-advised.

My brother has been a GM guy his entire life and said that working in the shop with all the other mechanics that the Cummins is the best diesel out there, BUT he said their computer systems are soooo advanced that guys that bring their truck in the shop for misc warranty work that have put a programmer on their truck but took it off "before" they brought the truck in for warranty work are screwed. The Dodge computers have a "memory" (A tattle tale) that tells the mechanic immediately if any aftermarket mods have ever been done. If it comes up yes it automatically voids the drivetrain warranty.

That being said as much as I Love Superduty's, if I ever buy another diesel it would be a Duramax.

I really want a Cummins diesel. Most serious haulers want the Cummins because they're bulletproof and a straight 6 instead of V8. Any semi truck etc has an inline diesel because of the crazy low end torque and reliability. My friend has an 08 Ram 2500 Cummins and he tows 20k+ lbs sometimes and he said it never struggles for power and even has a standard exhaust brake. Like other's have mentioned, to bad its a Dodge though. My second choice would be GM for the Allison trans.

I am not a Dodge,GM,Ford,Toyota,Honda,Jeep, etc man. I've had them all over the last 50+ years. All the brands have done the job for me.

I don't understand blind brand loyalty and people that say brand X is the only one.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
x2 - it's OK to like a certain brand, but to be totally blinded by it is another thing...

I will say that after owning my silverado for 8 months or so, I'm close to getting rid of it in favor of another Yota.

You have never had one you prefered, and they all performed equally every time? You are very fortunate. My perception from your post is that a vehicle for you is just something that gets you from point "A" to point "B" and thats okay my wife is the same way. She could care less if she drove a Lexus or a Saturn as long as its reliable has a/c and a radio she's happy.

I am 50 years old and for more than half my life I "preferred" GM products. I drove their trucks and hot rodded their camaro's, I had friends that were and still are Ford finatics and one or two that are Mopar guys.

My dad is 70+ years old and wouldn't own/drive anything other than his Chevy pickups, it wasn't "blind" loyalty just that he preferred their product because it had always performed as expected.

In summation I would say there may be some of the population that have "blind" loyalty but for most its a preference or a passion for their particular brand. Case in point the Tacoma guys on this forum.

If it were only a perfect world the Cummins would be paired with an Allison.

I heard somewhere the 2010 Fords have a new engine. Anyone want to chime in about it?

Ford has a new diesel but its still the 6.4 and as much as I hate to say this it is junk.
The thing with any of the 6.0 or 6.4 Ford diesels is that they have the 100k mile drivetrain warranty which saved my ass twice and the truck(2007 Lariat CC 4wd) only had 67k miles on it. I had a lift, wheels, navigation etc.... on that Superduty but my brother inquired as to why pay a monthly note on a truck that within another year the warranty will be expired and your screwed. Consequently Toyota was going through their inquiries on Capital Hill at the time which created a buyers market so I traded my 07 Superduty for my loaded 2010 Tacoma. This is the 5th Toyota our family has owned and I have confidence that this is solid vehicle that will have minimal issues if any.

the new 2011 superduty is built completely by ford and from the sounds of things, it's going to be a new world of truck, but we'll see if it's as good as it sounds, cause it sounds awesome!

I don't understand why people are so excited about it. The new engine is now made by ford, the rest of the truck always was. The only thing going for the 2011 is the sweet chrome grille on the front. Looks badass. Otherwise the engine is average and the rest of the truck hasn't changed. Hopefully this new engine isn't as bad as the last time super duty's got a new engine; it was basically an acetylene torch.

All double cab Tacomas have at least a 5 foot bed. The shortbed is 5', the regular bed is 6' (actually about 6'1.5")

A vehicle is a tool to be used to get a task accomplished. Sometimes I needed a powerful vehicle like my ex Dodge 2500 diesel.
Sometimes a vehicle just for fun.
Now as I am retired I just need a small truck like my 2002 Tacoma regular cab.
Other times in my life I needed something else to get the job down.

And i had my share of"passion" vehicles.
    Built a T roadster with a Buick V8 when I was 14.
    1950 Ford
    1957 Chevy
Had a MGA with a Corvette engine in it.
    1957 VW bug
    1960 Renault R4l
    Karmen Ghia
    Chevy class c camper.
    VW camper
    VW Thing
    1977 Toyota pickup
The list goes on and on.

My point is just don't get on an ego trip and think the brand that you choose is the only one. :D

And they all did not preform equally every time just like our Tacomas.

And I am not like your wife. I would prefer to drive a Lexus over a Saturn any day of the week.

My wife had a 2010 Outback which she prefers over her now gone 2008 AWD Toyota Highlander.

    BTW I drive a 2002 Tacoma which I bought new in 2001.

Actually a lot of flatbeds have this combo in a Ford truck which is pretty awesome but will probably never come stock in a light duty truck :(.

The new Ford-made diesel is all-new 6.7L diesel. Nicknamed the "Scorpion" the numbers are very impressive somewhere around 735 ft lbs of torque if I remember correctly. Anyway, until it is proven, I still rather have a Cummins, which, if all else fails, at least sounds a lot more badass than any V8 diesel.

yea the new superduty looks amazing, I like the idea of a truck built as 1 piece, rather than buying a transmission and drivetrain and trying to get them to work well with a motor, they also made it quieter, more power, lighter, and I THINK they went to a single turbo
