    Guys I have a question about lift kits for my 2011 Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4 SR5
I have the regular stock tires on it 245/75/16. I want to put a lift kit on it and 17" wheels and tires. But I'm not going to take it off road and just drive to work or to drive 200 mile trip. I want to put on the best kit to not break anything or damage anything. But I want a ride that feels nice. Only want to raise it maybe 2 1/2" or 3" plus what the bigger tires and wheels raise it. What's the best type of lift kit and best size tires?

I put the 2.5" OME lift on with the 886 coils. and the spidertrax wheel spacers. I was able to put 285/70/17's on but I had to cut some of the underbody fiberglass (can't see the trim from standing next to it). However, the tires will rub on the outside edge of tire against the frame piece that runs parallel to the axle. This rubbing only happens when I am taking tighter turns at higher speeds (35mph suggested speed turn at 50+mph, for example) which causes the body to tilt enough. The rubbing is bad though, at that high speed, the rubbing actually slows the wheel down enough to break traction (super sketch).

I am going to add a 2" block spacer lift in front and rear to do 2 things. 1) Raise the truck so tires clear the frame. 2) Raise the COG. Since I are engineer... I hope I am smart enough for this to limit my "rally" type driving. <-Not trying to roll this b***h. :D

I have a 2008 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 2WD with stock wheels and tires. From what i've found out, the stock tire size is a 215/70r15 and the wheels are 15"

What i am trying to accomplish is to raise the height of the truck slightly via using new wheels and tires, plus the aesthetic of the stock gear isn't too appealing. I would like to use some pro comp rock crawler wheels and i'm open to any suggestions about the tires to go with it. This said, i DO NOT want to lift the truck or do any sort of cutting inside the wheel well to accommodate turning / proper fit.

From what my research as shown me, the largest wheel i could use to accomplish this would be a 235/60r16, but the tire calculator showed that this would be a .25" adjustment in the diameter, which is pretty insignificant. I would also need something with a 5-5.25" backspacing so that the tire wouldn't stick out past the wheel well.

So i suppose my real question then is if the only way to accomplish what i'm looking for is to lift the truck to allow for larger equipment? I'm sure adding different tires and wheels will aesthetically make the truck look better, but i'm not convinced a .25" increase in height is going to do it for me. Thoughts? Advice? I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Couple things... 1) A tire with a 0.25" diameter difference will only give you a 0.125" lift. 2) If you do decide to lift your truck to put bigger tires in, you will benefit from a wider stance to compensate for the heightened COG so the backspacing of the wheel is of less concern. If you are worried about spraying dirt/water on your body, consider that more than likely, unless you opt for a 4"+ lift, you will have to eliminate the front mudflaps anyway due to rubbing.

I guess what I'm saying is, if you really want to raise the truck, you will need a lift of some sort. Haven't gotten too up close and personal with a 2WD, but I would imagine the only difference in stock is the ride height, not any difference in the width or turn radius. From the situation you are suggesting, I really think your best option would be a small spacer lift on the front and rear. Beware of the Toytec spacers, as they actually go inside the coilover assembly. I know there are some that simply bolt on the top of the coilovers, and the lift is relatively inexpensive as all you are buying is a couple pieces of machined steel and new u-bolts (for the rear).

    Best of luck!

I want to throw in a vote for 235/85r16 or the 235/80r17. They barely fit stock, but no rubbing at all. Both are taller and thinner than the very popular 265/75r16 or 265/70r17. More clearance, better grip, better fuel economy - but they don't "float" as well. Nice military look to them. They are better in most conditions I feel.

Synthetic oil/lubes used throughout. NGK Iridium Lazer 100K spark plugs. Rear differential breather extension modification. Toyota front skid plate, roof rack, bed mat, chrome exhaust exhaust. Runs like new!
I wouldn't recommend that slightly larger tire to potential buyers that may get stuck with tires that don't fit properly. The older but 2nd generation TRD Sport model w 17" rims came with 265/65/17's. I ordered the correct size and stated the the proper size 3 more times when I went in for tire installation (Town Fair Tire-05 Tacoma).

They put 70's on which is only slightly taller. I was irritated at their mistake but had to fly to another appt. The sales clerk and installer assured me they would be fine. They rub with the wheel turned all the way and going over slight hills/bumps with wheel turned.

The average gentle rider may not pick up this slight rub for quite some time. I have a 30 day road test guarantee and they put the wrong size on there anyway. Just dread waiting another 3 hours for tire install. I suggest u stay stock unless your lifting your vehicle which would give you more clearance. Most tires may not rub but the General Grabber AT2's have a very deep tread. 2nd set of these tires. They handle great in all conditions from rain to snow to off road. Slight hum compared to a highway tire but you get use to it and they are much better handling than those horrible Brigestone that often come with the Tacoma's. Good luck.

Sounds like ESC acting up. Common. Some have had a zero point calibration done and it's fixed. I just wired in a ABS kill switch and that took care of it.

Damnit. I'm usually on top of that chit. Extenuating circumstances make me misspell apparently.
