Did it make a difference switching to Load C KO2s? I want to do the same tire. Also, did you have any type of lift or leveling kit on that picture? Your truck looks nice. I'm trying to decide whether or not I can get away with just doing tires.

Looks super nice. I'm new to all of this lifting. Did you do 5100s on front and back and then added the block in back? Or just 5100s in front and blocks in the back?

Looks like this thread is still going! I have to share mine now. I just put 285/75r16 (32.8"x11.2") General Grabber ATx on my 2020 Tacoma off-road. Stock suspension, a winch and mini bumper on the front, 300lbs in the back. NO RUBBING! I haven't had a chance to flex it all the way yet, but with mild amounts of flex it doesn't touch the fenders. With the stock wheels the tire is very close to the upper control arm and spindle, so I'll be looking for better rims with my next set of tires. I'm super stoked this worked!

My wheels just came in (17x9 -38 offset) and I have stock suspension also. Will I rub and if not do you think I can go bigger? Thanks

Thanks man I'm working on getting the truck to look really good. I wanted a moderate lift but man changing the tires made a difference. The guys at the tire shop agreed too. I just love this truck. The gray and black looks good together.

I can't speak from experience but -38 is very aggressive and will likely find that you will fit a smaller size than others on stock suspension. That being said, find a local tire shop and they should be able to mount a tire for you to try.

My first question is - do you run chains on the front? If so, a fat tire may look cool, but you will have zero clearance with the upper suspension. I did a lot of experimenting at a local tire shop (Les Schwab) and discovered the 235/85-16 was the larged diameter tire I could run, and was the fattest and still put chains on the front (a requirement for my winter access issues)
Ask anyone that does a lot of snow-travel. A fat tire is a poor choice. But then again, if you are looking for sex-appeal in the supermarket parking lot...Do a lift and put on those big fat ones. Just don't complain about winter travel or fuel mileage issues.

So fat tires don't work in snow huh...Well I certainly suggest you call these guys and let them know they are doing it all wrong:boink:

Oh they will work, especially if you drop their pressure down to the point that they will just stay on the rims.
If you talk to people who routinely travel up into the mountains for work (Not play) You will hear another story.

    It's not that simple sadly.

I'm still on factory suspension as well (since 2017). I WAS running 275/70/17 on my current wheels which are 17x8.5 with 0 offset.

At one point I tried on some spidertrax 1.25" spacers just for fun which effectively turned my wheels into -32 offset... Big mistake! Rubbed like hell, couldn't turn the wheel more than 50% in either direction.

Now a days I'm on 285/70/17. No rubbing thanks to a simple Cab Mount Chop.

It's a tricky deal, not enough offset and you are too close to the UCA. Too much and you rub. It might take some trial and error but you will get it.

Let me know if I can help with specific sizes or want to know more about how easy it is to trim and chop. (it's really not a big deal at all).

If you don't want to touch a single thing, you're looking at 265/70/17 which is not much different from stock size.

Yeah, I routinely travel in the snow. Yeah, I have yanked out countless overweight suburbans in vacationing families in the surrounding Breck mountain roads and mostly driveways at 10k+ feet. I have rarely used chains. A good 4wd does not need chains if it has good winter tires. Winter 3 peak tires are amazing in snow situations even with 2wd vehicles.

If you look at the options for the tire selection at the 235 size you mention, there are no good winter options. Most are mud tires. Mud tires have serious deficiencies in most snow and ice conditions. The idea behind skinny tires is that they dig their way down thru the snow to ground and get traction, problem is that it doesn't work with skinny tires that are 31 inches n diameter and give little clearance. It certainly works for 2.5 ton axle'd military trucks with 39-44 inch skinny tires. A 255/80/17 is a much better tire due to it's larger diameter.

In most big snow places, you will not dig down to a spot to get traction, so the best thing is to try and stay afloat as much as possible and keep from high centering on your skid in the snow. A wider tire can help with that.

But no, I have not used chains in the snow and never needed them with my 4x4. But hey, maybe others are doing much worse driving than I am and may need them. But in general 99% won't need chains.

Just got my SCS F5's in yesterday, 17x8.5 -10 offset. Thinking about putting them on 265/70R17 or 255/80R17 tires for a 2020 TRD OR stock suspension, some people say they don't have any problems some people say they have rubbing. Anyone have any experience similar?

I have SCS GEN5 17x8.5 -10 with 265/70R17 Toyo Open Country AT3's and the only small problem i have is when going up a driveway or a hill while turning, and its just an ever so slight rub, I also have stock SR5 Suspension currently so the stock Off-Road Suspension should be better.

I was born in an igloo and hunt seals here in Calgary Canada so I know a few things about winter travel. No substitute for rubber I tell ya.
