What do YOU think is a good tire size to run without regearing your diffs? Since we all know re-gearing isn't the cheapest thing around.

I have a 2001 V6 double cab auto 4wd right now with 5100's, Toytec/Eibach coils, AAL rear, full armor (minus skids) and 32x11.5R15 Yokohama Geolandar AT/S's and still feel the truck has some get-up to it. Once these tires wear out (or I sell them :D) I want to step up tire size and get some MTs, because who steps down in tire size?! Lol. Anyway, without re-gearing, I think I can get away with running 33's on the truck without it feeling like a total dog but I might just be getting used to the truck through it's different stages. Going to 285/75/16's and aluminum wheels *might* help my cause if I want to keep some power.

Entirely up to you to decide how much power loss/drivetrain wear and tear you want to tolerate.

I didn't even notice a difference with 33's and I tow a trailer. I was passing cars on the long uphill grade going to big bear fully loaded with the trailer for a 4 day camp trip. Not one vehicle passed me.

I notice the difference in RPM/gear selection/shift points by the tranny. I can tell the drivetrain is working a bit harder, but it's certainly not as bad as hauling GVWR or towing a couple tons.

I really want Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's in the 33" flavor but it's either a 285/75/16 or 33x12.5R15. Wish they made a 33x10.5 like BFG does! The 33x10.5R15 KM2's are looking pretty good but I know the sidewalls aren't what the MT/R is.

KM2s are pretty proven all around though.

    And i was thinking more 255s :D

Of course I only drove my truck for like 2000 miles before I put 33's on it so I suppose I really had not spent enough time with it on stock tires to really have a comparison and I only have 7500 on the truck now and its 19 months old.

Looks like you have a second gen Tacoma too that has more HP than mine so I don't know how that will help me :p What's up with that anyway? I posted in the first gen forum for a reason LOL

I have a bad taste in my mouth on KM2's only because the KM1's had paper thin sidewalls. Maybe that changed with the KM2's?

I don't know what gears you have but I have 4.10s with my V6 5speed and I can definitely feel the difference in power with my 285/75/16s. It still has power but feels significantly slower than 265/75/16s. I wish I would have gone with 255/85/16s but the Treadwrights were such a good price lol.

Op what gearing does the gear code inside your driver side door say you have? Also manual or AT?

Nah. 33 X10.5 for sure.... if the Op has both 15
    and 16" rims

33x10.5 as big as I'd go really. 12.5s I can feel the difference but it's not horrible

I have the auto with 4.10s. And I have 15" wheels now but am entertaining the idea of going 16's. I really like the 5 star 4runner wheels like these...

And actually have a friend that wants to trade my black Cragar soft 8's for those. Problem is, 16" tires are more expensive  If I do 16's, it'll be a 285/75/16 for sure.

yeah, I was just finished re-gear my Tacoma truck from 4.30 to 5.29 and I did feel a bit different. once i accelerate I can tell that the truck feels much lighter and take off a bit faster. Re-gear, it won't take you longer than 5-6 hours if you have the right tools and all the things you need in hand. I ran on Toyo M/T tires on 33x12.50x15 since my truck is only a 4 cylinder 4wd. I could have gone with bigger tires ... neah may be in a few years

stay on a 15'' rim man. Tire prices are almost 100 bucks a tire more on a 16'' rim.

If I decide to re-gear, I'm just going to solid axle swap the truck and find some built axles that are already re-geared. I can't see myself dumping money into the IFS front end :p If I do axle swap this truck, it'll be my second SAS'd Tacoma anyway :D
