Biggest tire without re-gearing?

KM2's and MT/R's are roughly a $35 difference between 33x12.5R15's and 285/75R16s. Not too bad but still another $140 more for all 4 tires.

 

ah musta been thinkin 17''..either way..cheaper tires at 15s haha

plus a 285/75 is really like a 33x11.5ish tire..not a true 33x12.5

 

That'd be fine with me 33x12.5 is a little wide but 33x10.5 is a little skinny, IMO

 

Nah, a 10.5'' tire is great man. Very little trimming. Slap some 1.25'' or 1.5'' spacers to push em out a big and it looks bad ass.

But hey man..its your rig..YOU do what YOU want

 

The advantage to going to 16 or even 17" rims is that you have more clearance around the caliper, so if you do a big brake upgrade you have room to fit the parts. Otherwise the rim might rub the caliper.

 

The disadvantage to a 17 or larger is less meat more metal ^

 

I think this is a good topic of discussion for future n00bs with questions but this bigger tire ordeal on my truck might get thrown out the door soon if I trade the truck for a solid axle 3rd gen 4runner

 

I've been wondering about this too. It does seem as though 16s are generally more than 15s and 17s are even more. So this morning I compared today's price for BFG KM2s in three sizes and was a little surprised by the results.


33x10.5-15 (33.08" x 10.51") = $198 ea.
255/85-16 (33.07" x 10.04") = $202 ea.
255/80-17 (33.06" x 10.04") = $210 ea.

So the premise is correct but not nearly the price difference I was expecting.

That too. On my 15s, im totally comfortable airing down to 15psi or lower if need cause i know there is lots of tire there..i would be worried to do 15psi on a 17.

I know when the MTR Kevlars came out and my dad wanted them for his 2nd gen. They were 400 bucks a tire or so..was only 200 for a 15'' rim.

 

I do 15 psi all the time on my 17x8s no problem.

 

Thought you were on 16s...
