I know this is an old thread but what # LED did you order? The incandescent bulb that is in the illumination ring from the factory says #74 but the #74's I installed in the rest of my truck only have 3 leds. Like this bulb. What # LED is a 5 SMD? A #194?

It was #74 for sure, I just don't recall if I purchased it off vleds or fleabay. Also it had the characteristics of a small circular board with the LEDs flat mounted on the top of it with no LEDs on the side. I can't tell with your picture but if it has LEDs mounted to the sides, that may prevent you from sliding/plugging it in the slot all the way to make full contact.

Luckily these LEDs are cheap, so trial by error is the way to go and you will have spares for other fun projects :) It's the shipping cost of these suckers that's expensive. Hope you are able to figure it all out! its a fun and useful mod!

Like this? Or this? Neither of them are #74's though. @FirstGen Jer said it was a 74 but it didn't have the characteristics you described? Maybe he can chime in.

The #194 will not fit for sure, it needs to be #74 called "360" I think, like the one below, I had to shove that sucker in there tight.

What he said^^^ 194 and 74 refer to the socket bulb size. So only a type of 74 bulb will fit in that socket. That's the same led I used as he pictured. I agree the 3chip circuit board style 74 is a tight fit because of its length but it is a 360° beam angle. This means because of the 3 led chips it has, it shoots light 360° around so there is no dark spots in your key ring. If you look on superbrightleds.com in each leds specifications tab it will tell you if the led is a 360° beam angle. There are many different types of #74's so if you can find a shorter one if will be a easy fit. But the one you have already will work it's just takes some "nugging" to get it to fit in the key ring light housing. Hope that helps some.
