I have a choice to make.

    1. Buy another transfer case from a junkyard vehicle and swap it over, praying it works. However, the issue can happen again and I’ll have to do it again. Cost is roughly $350 + 2 days of my time and a buddies, and finding a lift (Can't work in front of my house anymore - Neighbors called the city and complained).

    2. Go to Rock Solid Toys and do the FJ case which allows me to have a J-shifter. No chance of this thing failing really - They’re bomb proof and no more dealing with the electric BS. Cost is $3,200.

If anyone can provide input on the route to go, that’d be awesome. Spending $3,000+ on having a transfer case swapped isn’t my ideal scenario, but this is the 2nd time I’ve had to deal with this and I’m just a tad bit tired of it.

Yes! Just having a stick like that - No dual sticks though as it would probably be useless unless I had a crawler box and I don't plan to do that anytime.

I would love to do it myself although I don't have any time anymore if I wanted to do the FJ swap. However, I may have enough time if I wanted to do just a new (to me) transfer case swap from a totaled Tacoma. It's a huge price difference, but I know I'm going to keep crossing rivers and puddles and I'd hate to lose 4WD again mid trail.

yeah, you definitely don't want to lose 4WD!

Is the case beyond repair? I'm sure you could source a replacement at a relatively low cost?

Case is beyond repair. I did find a ton of used ones, but this summer is going to be filled with traveling. I can't imagine losing 4WD in the middle of Montana, lol!

Used cases off eBay are around $250 + freight shipping. A new case OEM from the dealer is $1,100.

I may just try doing it myself first with a used case and if it doesn't work, so be it..I'll drop the big money then and count my losses.

Did a transfer case on my 1st gen

Took an hour of my time and I did the swap solo. Bought a used one off eBay

    Very simple to do.

Someone on here swapped in a T4R transfer case and made his truck AWD.

Good to know - I think this is the route I will go. Do you remember when you put the transfer case in, if you had it in 2wd or 4wd?

    $3,200??? Fuck that, that's retarded!
You can replace with used stock 10x before that pays off!
Just get the FJ case off eBay or a junkyard and do it yourself! RSt is nice but not $3,200 nice. Not even half that
