I'm in need of a bike fork mount for my truck bed so that I don't have to keep tossing mine and my mates mountain bikes in the bed to get all tangled up. No way i'm paying premium for such a simple system. The OEM one from Toyota is $100, and the rocky mount one pictured below would be $150 for two!!

My question is, what can I use for the little metal tabs that attach to the rail? Assuming I buy a fork mount from Amazon for $15 then use whatever I figure out for the metal tabs, that's much cheaper than the alternatives. See pictures below for visualization of what I want...

Attach it to the bed rail. It's way easier.

Drill the rail from top down and bolt it down. I remove the axle tab when not in use, so it doesn't rattle.

Sorry maybe I wasn't clear, but yes that's exactly what I want to do. Buy a fork mount and attach it to the track system. Basically how the OEM cleats are attached. Except I would use hex bolts or something similar. I just don't know what/where to get something like that to fit in the tracks...

What I'm asking is if I buy the fork mount pictured in my first post, do you have any ideas on what I can use to attach it to the tracking system?

@MeefZah I would prefer not to have to make any physical changes like drilling since it's not necessary. Just trying to figure out what/where I can buy some attachments for the track system so I don't have to pay $100+ for two simple fork mounts.

Carriage bolts with the round heads ground down on the sides should work. Look at the cheap DIY thread to see how some guys used them to mount ammo cans to the rails. You would be doing the same, but mounting the fork mounts instead. Before you ask, no, I don't have a link... it's a big thread and the idea is buried in it somewhere..... :)

I used to have my mounts attached to the bed rail. I just used some washers and bolts, it wasn't pretty but it worked. Once I got my topper I had to bolt the mounts to a 2X6. You may want to consider this option. It's nice because you can just remove the board when you aren't using it.

There are some very informative threads on here about the different options. I suggest searching "bed rail attachments" or something along those lines.

Personally, because I couldn't find anything ideal at the hardware store and didn't have time to order online, I bought huge round washers and used tin snips to cut two sides off. I then used loctite to align a nut on the back. I then slid it in the channel on the rail and was ready to go...just bolted the fork mount right on.

Thank you that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for!

I've thought about that as an alternative, but I'm in college living in a small apartment. Storing the board when not in use would be a problem, whereas I can just throw the bed rail mounts in the behind-the-seat storage when not in use.

Perfect! I'll do some searching under "bed rail attachments" on here. And the washer/loctite thing is a great idea so I can screw it on from the outside versus the carriage bolt idea above.

Thanks so much guys! Just needed a couple ideas to get the brain juices flowing.

This is exactly what I do, so nice to just drop it in when you need it! and you can put in the front of the bed or the depending on what else you've got going on back there.

It's already been addressed, but I used small carriage bolts with washers from a hardware store. Slid them into the rail and bolted the fork mounts using nylock nuts. I have t had any issues with them moving around or rattling. I think it cost me around $25 (including the fork mounts).

    A couple of tips:

Cut the board so that it fits snugly, then it won't wiggle around.

If mounting two bikes, stagger the mount locations so that your bar ends don't hit each other.

    Enjoy.

I bought 2 mounts from a bike shop for $19.99 each. I cut and tapped metal slugs to fit rail system. These mounts do not lock however a typical bike lock through a d-ring would solve that problem.
