No matter which way you carry it you'll need cable lock thru the d rings & frame/both wheels if you want that level of security. The rocky mounts bed rail mounts above have locking skewers but someone could still take off with back tire if you have quick release. I also use cable locks/lash locks to secure kayaks/surfboards/bikes or anything else to the d rings or the xsporter thule racks so it'll be there when I come back if I'm gonna be out of sight of the vehicle. The xsporters also lock up somewhat for nonthievary to a point.

    Stock. Purchased 2/17/19. Cement!
I admit I use the bed a lot and simply put a cable to the bike to prevent theft or I use the cleat on the bed rail or the bike attachment on the roof. Depends if Im hauling anything else. A trip to Yosemite for example would constitute putting the bikes on the roof! You get my point!

Yep, multitasking is where you'll need different options. Instead of the roof, I also have the receiver hitch rack for kayaks on top, camping equip & cargo box in the bed for luggage or golf clubs, fishin poles/tackle & room for ice chests etc etc & bikes outback.
