Too poor to list anything interesting.
Would using a hitch mounted bike rack not work vs putting them on the roof?

    It works
And I have one for my wife's car
Just prefer roof mounted then having the bike on the hitch

Depending on the bike, I would be hesitant on a roof rack. I had a buddy lose his DH bike on the highway while his buddy ran it over. I wont ever invest in a roof attachment because of this for my bikes. Hitch tray bike racks all the way!

I'm sure someone on this site has done a roof mounted bike before. Every time I think "surely no one has done this" I find it's been done.

I have a pretty nice ibis fs
    On a rocky mounts rack
It's been bed mounted on my ram and I'm waiting on a pro and just trying to figure out what my plan is for the pro
I trust the Rocky mounts rack

Yea man the bed isn't too bad, atleast the cab covers some of the wind. When the bike is on the roof that thing can get thrown all over the place. My buddy had a pretty decent rack that we wouldn't of ever guessed would of failed. I like tray racks as the bikes are for the most part out of the wind on their frames due to the tailgate which prevents almost any swaying at all.

At the same time, I wouldn't mount an RTT on a cap either unless it was a contractor one as from what I understand those will crack over time if you wheel with them with that sort of load on top.

Frontrunner (I think) used to make a bike rack that mounts off the bedside using the utility track, but I can't find any info about it currently. That would be a great option as it would keep the bike around the same profile as a RTT on a cab height bed rack.

Yea man considering we were on the way to a race, it def wasn't expected for sure. Top of that, the guy had just gotten over a broken collarbone injury.

Good thing on the cap, without the proper reinforcement for the bolts they will just slowly sway until they start to enlarge the hole. Once it hits a certain diameter it will naturally crack around until there is no support left. I keep trying to tell one of my guys on here about this but he is adamant about going this route with an RTT.

Do you have to drive inside any garages for work? I have to keep mine under 6'8 which isn't that hard and I could likely go up another 5 inches before worrying about smacking something. I have a low profile bed rack on mine where the top of the RTT sits flush with the cab to try to save on mpg. I also don't have too much need in the bed for height and I still have some visibility to see in the rear.

That sucks, hope insurance covered it.
Ive always had a love hate relationship with caps over the years...this makes it easier to not want one
I'm not used to parking in my garage since I've always driven a 2500 style truck and had an old jeep taking up space. The option is something I'd like to have since the tacoma is so much smaller and Im currently jeepless
    leaning towards lowpro bedrack

Get the kbvoodoo bike rack mounts, they are sweet and work well. Plus i beleive they can be used with a rack or cap.

I know the struggle. I have a RTT and I also need to hual around 2 bikes. I've tried a few different setups. Here is a photo of one of them. Work Great for me. As you can tell you those bike were way up there and I needed to remove a bike to open the tent properly.

    Nice that's awesome
Do the cross bars extend that far past the tent to attach the rack?

Since that setup I've moved on to a camper shell and a full roof rack. So I had to change my approach. Here is a photo of when I did my family of 4 bike trip recently. I had the kids bikes on the cab rack with mine and lady's bikes off the hitch. When it's just me and the girl our bikes will go on the cab rack and free up rear of the truck up for easy access. This setup it by far my favorite. The only bummer is dealing with the front tires but it's not a big inconvenience

    Nice set up
What cap/rack/tent did you have? How many do you sleep on the tent?
