I’d imagine pairing new firm struts with worn fatigued leaf springs would give poor results. Not sure how that would manifest but I can imagine bad leaf springs would prevent the strut from rebounding, so the strut would wallow in the middle of its travel giving a rough ride.

Edit- but who knows. I bought OME 90021s and 884 springs for my Tacoma and they would clunk like mad over speed bumps. Replaced with 90000s and they are perfect. Point is how the strut and spring matches can be the culprit.

how does the bed handle a load currently?

The ome 90021S are supposed to be the soft ones correct? Are you riding a 3" lift? I would imagine that the clunk you heard was the OME clunk. With the old shocks in the rear riding with a load was fine. Had 500lbs of dirtbikes n shit in the back and it was smooth. Just wallowed some. Now with the new shocks its bad. It shakes so much on the highway I feel like its a coincidence and somethings broken.

Replacing leaves is not exactly a cheap affair. Looking at almost a grand in CAD. Rockauto cheapies?

I think what im going to do is weld a rod to my old suspension and reinstall them. Sadly I had to cut them off at the top. See if its actually something else and some sort of insane coincidence. Im not exactly new to fixing vehicles or building them. Thais should be easy to diagnose, but I am new to leaf springs.

This resulted in about a 2” lift. You are right the 90021s are softer on compression but for some reason they rebounded way too fast. The 90000s got rid of the clunk for me. I started a thread about if a few years ago.

Maybe more economical to buy the OMEs and try. If they don’t work you can probably sell them for 60-70% of what you paid. Still losing money but better than spending 1k for nothing.

NM saw you are on 884

    dont see em anywhere.

Select coils from options- All coils are sold in pairs

    • 883 --- Front Coil Springs: Used alone as leveling coils (approx. 1.5" lift) - Stock weight
    • 885--- 2" Average lift standard coils - Stock weight
    • 886--- 2.5" lift coils- For use with bar and winch- 110-220 lbs additional front weight
884 is from an fj and four runner eh, little bit lower?

Bilstein 5100's on all four corners. Front set @ 0 with OME 883x coils. Alcon leaf springs. Viper Alarm. Wet Okole seat covers. WeatherTech Floor liners front and back. Oem Toyota chrome exhaust tip. ARE Shell. America Outlaw Wheels.
I have the 5100s set at 0 with the OME 883 on my 2011 DCSB PRERUNNER. Ride is much better then stock. Got just under 2in. I also have a 1in. block out back with 5100s with Alcon springs. I have been very happy with this set up. Don't forget the 1/4 in top spacer for driver side lean. You WILL need it.

The 5100s are a bit stiffer ride. You have to remember that the rear end of these trucks are very light. You may want to look at the OME shocks they will ride a bit softer.

Yea I just found out about the taco lean last night. Ill have to order it up. If I go springs ill go with 883 or 884. I'm trying to figure out how to get 1.5" max in the back with a new leaf pack. Wheeler has some stuff I think. Think those might work ok.

I am thinking about going up to the 884. Only because I like it to sit level and with the 1in of lift in the rear I have a slight rake.
Edit : Don't know anything about those leafs. For a little bit more look into the Alcon springs. You can order them to your specs.

All the Billys I've encountered road well in my opinion. The back end of these things is quite light.

Not for sale at the moment. Still deciding if I want to do it. I am going to need to replace UCA if I do it. Alignment numbers came in on the line of needing UCA. But I will Check back with you when I do it to see if your still interested.

Well I am at a loss. Put old shocks on and it's still there. Just amplified by the Billy's. Could worn leaves make it bouncy? These shots are with 240lbs of sand in the bed. Should I pop a wheel off?

OP - just sharing my experience. I had the 5100's installed at 100K miles - they replaced the OEM yellow Bilsteins.

One of them had a major leak after 5000 miles and Bilstein wouldn't warrantee them, so I said "#$@! them" and replaced both rears with OME Sport Nitrochargers. They blow away the 5100's in my opinion. Rear end sticks like glue on bumpy forest roads and hardly any skipping on washboard sections.

    Just my 2 cents.
