I installed Bilstein 4600’s all around about 9 months ago
Now my truck drives like they are wore out
Is this a common occurrence ?
    Thanks in advance

Certainly not common, but not impossible.

Can you give a little more info on the truck? Describe the ride characteristics. How many miles, ant other modifications? (4600's so I assume no lift).

Bilstien usually has a pretty good warranty, I'd give them a call after you look for leaks on the shocks.

I've replaced the stock Bilstein shocks twice on the front since 1998, and three times on the rear. Truck now has 110,000 miles on it. Go figger. IMO, no shock lasts much longer than 40,000 to 50,000 miles, especially when driven on rough, knarly, washboardy desert roads where the suspension is driven to its limits. :bikewhoops:

    My truck is stock with
    127,000 miles on it
The body rolls and bounces a lot more then it did before and after I changed struts and shocks This problem just started a few weeks ago
The original ones had been on the truck for the last 15 years or 90,000+ miles I have put on it (had 37,000 when I got it)
I know Bilstein would replace them and I can get a refund from where I bought them but I think I’m just going to go back to OEM ones and keep the 881 coils

It's not stock, if you have 881 coils.

Those are lift coils and you have shocks designed for stock height. That may be part of your problem.

I would replace with 5100s, and set the coils on the lowest "stock height" setting.

What he said. 4600s are stock height shocks and 881s are lift coils so you need extended length shocks like 5100s if you want to keep the 881s.

aftermarket coils probably preloaded the shocks to an early retirement, had 4600's on stock TRD progressive rate coils last forever on my truck, the paint rotted off but they still had rebound

Doesn't matter the exact model, they aren't stock.

Chalk this up to a $220 learning experience: Curious where you got the information that you could pair up OME coils and 4600s...

The coils are Moog 81078 or 81100
not sure as I got rid of the box after installation
I’m going back to Toyota struts
Just curious as to why the 4600’s are riding like they are wore out this also includes the rear ones

Cuz they are too short for the coils. The spring is trying to tear the shock apart. Travel is maxed(or nearly) in the negative direction due to the height of the coil.

Ok, MOOG coils. The "881" you mentioned happens to be the part number for a very popular lift coil, the Old Man Emu (OME) 881's... which are lifted coils.

That's a great question. The extra inch could be because the old ones were wore out, and I don't believe Moog does a lift coil.

Other things we need to know about your truck:
Is this a 4x4/Pre-runner (the 6-lugs), or a 5-lug pickup? 4cyl or v6? What year is it? Any other information you have, or even pictures of the front suspension can really help us diagnose the issue.

The chances that you have the incorrect coils is still there, so switching back to oem shocks isn't likely to solve your problem. The problem you're describing just isn't something we typically see without there being some other underlying cause of the failure. 4600s are very good shocks (for the money), and typically last 10's of thousands of miles.

I just had a set of 4600s with Moog 81104 coils assembled. I don't want to install these on the truck only to have them wear out prematurely due to incorrect coils.

Can anyone with experience with or without this same setup provide any input?

    Thanks

Moog doesn't make a lift coil for the Tacoma, so they should pair fine with 4600s assuming that's the correct part# (which it appears to be).

That said, I would avoid getting car parts from Amazon. Amazon isn't exactly a car parts specialist - they sell books and games, and don't have a great history of getting you the correct part. Either because they don't care to actualy verify what the seller is giving you, or because they don't actually know what fits.

They're also cheaper at Rockauto ($91.79):

Bought from Rockauto. It automatically hyperlinked to Amazon when I typed out the Moog model, just like yours did when you typed Amazon ;)

Any other input on the topic?

    Ugh, I hate that.

Nah, I think you're good. Those are the coils I would have ordered if I were in the market.

Just make sure the coil buckets aren't installed up-side-down. I've seen that before.
