    Hi,

I'm looking into putting some 5100's on my truck to get an 1" or so lift. I've read through a bunch of threads but can't find any that show exactly what I need.

I want to do it the right way, and not just "make it work" so would anyone be able to tell me exactly what I need? Just the shocks? Do I need new springs too? Wheel spacers?

    Thanks

I assume your 2008 has the original springs? If so, get new ones with the shocks. OME 883 or the right Eibachs springs will work nicely with the 5100s set at 0. This will deliver less than 2" of travel and give a great ride. I'm not exactly sure how much travel you'll get so like jwctaco suggests, contact Marie at Headstrong Offroad or the guys at Toytec Lifts.

Edit: 884 coils will give you approx 2" of lift. If that's too much, go with the 883, as 08TacoTrD pointed out. Wheel spacers are not necessary if you run stock size tires.

883's and 5100's up front give less than 2". Put in an add-a-leaf in the back.

I recently installed 5100s on my 2015. I used factory springs and set the 5100s to the 3rd setting (second highest). I also installed an Add A Leaf from Wheelers (+ 1 1/2"). I have a camper shell so have an extra 180 lbs in the rear. Also installed a carrier bearing lowering kit from Wheeler's. I got it all done in an afternoon in my garage. Then had it professionally alligned the next day. I went with 265 70 R17s and have no rubbing. John

If you only want one inch of lift all you need are the 5100's and nothing else. 5100's set at the first ring setting will give you about 1 inch of lift.

As has been said, Marie at HeadStrong Offroad has both great product knowledge and pricing. I just had the OME 2883's and front & rear Billies installed Monday on my 2015 DCSB....couldn't be happier. The front lifted about an inch and the truck now sits perfectly level. Ride is just a tad stiffer (more controlled, sportier) in the front....definately a good thing. Less dive when braking and less lean cornering. The shocks and springs work well together. No springwork in the rear. My main goal was to level and retain a nice ride.

I did the Deavers AAL in the rear. It actually HELPED the ride quality. The rear was a bit "bouncy" before. Now it's just firm enough to give more control without being harsh and stiff. I have OME 885X's on the front. The AAL gave the entire truck a better balance and the ride is EXTREMELY good now.

Billy 5100s on all 4 corners + bags in the back.
I also have the 5100s with OME 883 coils in the front, set to 0, and got approx 1" of lift. Very happy with the ride quality and level look. In the rear I have the the TSB leafs with Firestone air bags.

Anytime someone gets into my truck, I consistently get compliments on how well it rides.

Go with the 5100s and 883s set to 0 if you want good handling, a nice ride, and a level truck.

[OP] Please post back with your findings/results. I'm considering the same 1" - 1.5" solution.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

It seems like everyone has a bit of a different opinion on what is needed.

I'll reach out to Maria, but let's first pretend like I don't know what I need at all.

    Front need:
    1) the shock
    2) New Spring

    Rear need:
    1) the shock
    2) new leaf?

It seems like some people are saying I need a new leaf and some are saying I don't. Anything else I'm missing?

I recently installed the Bilstein 5100 set at 1.75". Original front springs and leaf springs .The truck was level and rode great.Toyota just did the rear leaf spring recall and the truck is still level and the ride is the same.My truck is an 09 with 51,000 miles on it.

Seems that the vast majority of the 'least lift' or 'leveling' threads and responses are on DCSB trucks and on TSB or oem 4-leaf springs. I have an Access Cab, with the last year of the oem 3-leaf OR rear springs. I really don't have any issues with the rear springs, but I know that they are not the greatest. I am not in the running for TSB springs, as it did not go through 2013. My goal is to lift the truck 1.5" or so, front and rear. I'm thinking 883s with Bilsteins at -0-, and the next question is which AAL to use in the rear. I don't want too much. Does a 1.5" long leaf AAL exist for the rear?

    My stock measurements are:

    DS Front - 19.75 PS Front - 20
    DS Rear - 21.25 PS Rear - 21.5

So I have 1.5" rake front to rear. Ideally, I would like to lift the front 1.5" and the rear about 1", but I could live with 1.5" to have some load capacity without dropping the rear too much when loaded.

OR, perhaps I should consider 884s in the front, and the 1.5" AAL in the rear, giving me a little more up front with less rake than 883 with AAL...I don't know how anyone ever reaches a decision!

Here are my numbers up front, I have 883's at the 0 setting on Billies.

    PS - 22"
    DS - 21.5"

I'm still not really seeing what I'm looking for here. Anyone else? I just need to know what else besides the shocks I need in order to install them correctly with the 1"~ lift. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Do I need new coils?
What needs to be done to the rear, if anything at all?

    Thanks again.

In addition to 5100 Bilstein shocks set at zero, OME 883 coils up front will get you about 1" of lift. In the rear, you can get a 1.5" add-a-leaf spring.

ETA: or just leave the rear end alone, as stock Tacomas are slightly higher in the rear than they are in the front.

    Bilstein 4600 shocks.
Front - you will need 5100s set at .85 with stock coil springs, or 5100s with OME 883 coil springs to achieve ~1" or so of lift.
Rear - you will need 1" blocks to get that height of lift. If you go with an add-a-leaf, either single or multi-leaf, I'm pretty sure you will get 1.5" at minimum.

It is recommended to get new rear shocks if you go 1.5" lift. I was told by Marie @ Headstrong that the stock shocks will work with a 1" block.

    I received the TSB leaf....so now I have 4.

I went with 883 at 0 with OME coils.

FYI I had all of this installed for free labor at the dealer when I got the frame replaced (free do to rust). They said they had to take it all off anyhow and would rather put on new.
