Hello tacomaworld! several months ago i had my lift kit installed with the eibach 3 inch lift coils and bilstein 5100 shocks. My shocks have since proved that they dont have enough travel to keep up with the springs and have worked their way through the top mount from bottoming out. I understand the eibach springs are meant for vehicles with a v6 or else youll get more lift that 3 inches, I have the 4 cylinder so im wondering if that is the root of the problem. My local shop wanted me to just get coilovers but I would prefer to just replace the shocks and mount before i do a total suspension change. So my question is what are my options? I cant seem to find any shocks with more travel than the 5100's, mainly because no websites want to list the specs! they just say "improved performance on off road" or the standard advertising shit. Does anybody know of an extended travel alternative to the bilsteins? i saw the eibach adjustable shocks and were considering those but i cant find specsIMG_2083.jpg IMG_2083.jpg

it's the exact same damage on both sides, and yes i do have the bilsteins set on their lowest adjustment setting

Ohhhh, the shop forgot to install that metal spacer and the slop allowed the movement of the rod to rip through over time.... Daaaaammn

This is why you should always do your own work. Thats not how that should look.

The lift might not have been right for your rig, but you should only see that reflected in your ride quality. Like cruiserguy said there should be bushings to keep it stable. They came with shocks

The "mechanic" who installed your front struts forgot both the rubber bushings AND the metal plates that should look like this when correctly assembled:

Issue is unrelated to coil used and amount of travel shock has. the shock itself doesn't ever bottom out. the lca hits the bump stops before that.

Damage caused by improper installation. looking at it the shock as is isnt really doing anything and it looks like this has been going on for a while. thing probably rides terrible

Hory chet. I just assumed the pic had the bushings removed to show the damage. But if it was ran with out the bushing and that spacer.... OP, never ever ever use that shop again. If what has happened has in fact been what's stated in this thread, then that wrench who installed the front struts is not competent. No offense at all intended.

If you have over 2.5 inches of lift, you'll need aftermarket upper control arms, to keep the factory alignment settings.

Man, that looks like a mess!

Your going to need new top plates and probably shocks.
