hi there, so I'm reading a lot about people setting their bilsteins to .85 with the 885's to get the full 3'' or using a small top plate spacer, but is it possible to set the bilsteins at 1.75''? thanks!

Look at 887's. Same spring rate just taller.

in that case, wouldn't it be even more advised not to use any of the raised settings on the billies?

like if I were looking at 887's could I go to .85 or 1.75 settings?

Why do you want to go 1.75?

yes if you want to possibly get 3"+ of lift and preload the hell out of your cv's. I can see further bearing wear in the front diff and vibes. Doing this would not gain you any travel in suspension, it will do the opposite.

People already preload with stock springs and it is really a stiff ride from what i hear. My question is why would you want to preload an even longer spring with a higher spring rate.

I wouldn't recommend preloading the 885's if you want a nice ride. Just set the 5100's @ 0 and put a small top plate spacer on top. You should also probably look into getting some spc upper control arms too if you are going to do this.

    no cv's for me :)

I'm not too concerned about the ride, I'm on pavement 99% of the time, so aside from ride quality, is it possible?

basically, I just wanted the most lift possible :)

eyeballing a used set of 885s so i'd be working with that, but i guess the same question applies, can i preload to .85 or 1.75 with the 887's? other than ride quality?

No, just an updated version. Fights sag better than the older 885's, I think. The main problem is your lifting your truck by eliminating down travel by moving the spring up. I would imagine you would top out the shock badly enough to damage it.

you can try. from your responses i see that people advising you to set it as 0 will not change your mind but bear in mind the 5100s were never designed to handle anything preloaded outside of the stock springs.

Being said, its your truck....and from observation with that kind of spring you want you will be reducing the life of the shock or some other component in your suspension. for something you want since you are without cv's i would suggest a spindle lift. If you are on a budget, i really would just advise you to wait and do a proper lift so you dont regret it later.

You say that now but after driving it awhile preloaded you probably won't like the ride.

Yottamatt had his ebiachs set to 1.75 and switched to 885's set to 0 so you might want to ask him the ride difference

oh I def appreciate the input, its not that I actually decided on anything for sure yet, it's just that pretty much any post I've read says to set at 0 for 2''ish lift, and .85 if you want the full 3'', but no other reasons other than harsh ride, I just wanted to know if they could take them. I already did the spindle lift, but looking for a little more lift :)
