Lots of dollars and no sense...
For anyone who has removed an old set of 5100 may or may not feel my pain. There is a allen socket at the top of the 5100 and when that shock spends it's life collecting dirt salt and whatever other foreign objects, good luck fitting an allen key back into that factory slot in order to hold the spindle from spinning while removing the top nut.

The sawzall and I took care of that issue. But next time I have to replace these I'd really like to not have to use the sawzall.

My idea, probably done before, is to put a little strip of rubber and zip tie it over the top of the spindle protecting the allen slot from shmust so when it's time to replace the shocks you can get right in there. Is there any reason this can't be done? Or does anyone have something they already find works to keep that slot clean?

A properly sized rubber nipple would do the trick and look better. *proceeds to google “rubber nipples”*
