Hello. New member here but I've been a fan of the site since I bought my Tacoma new in 2007.

I have been trying to research lifts for my truck for a while now and there seems to be countless setups and recommendations out there...as I would expect. Trouble is, my question is specific so I'm looking for a specific answer.

I have already installed Bilstein 5100 shocks all around on my truck and the fronts are set to 1.75". I currently run a 265/70R17 BFG AT tire with stock wheel with no issues. My only beef is that I'd like to get a bit more ground clearance and more aggressive stance on my truck. I can change the fronts to the 2.5" setting and planning on 1.5" AAL in the rear. If I change out the wheels to suit the offset/backspace needed, will this be enough to run 285/70R17 tires without rubbing? I don't mind taking the mud flaps off but don't really want to "chop" anything.

Also, what offset/backspace should I get to avoid rubbing (if possible)?

Many thanks to anyone that can assist me with advice.

Change to 2.5", install you add a leaf. Remove mudflaps. Wheels cant have more than 4.5" backspace. Odds are though you will need to chop the cab mount and trim plastic.

Bilstein 5100's set at .85, OME 885x coils w/ 1/2" top plate spacers, Total Chaos UCA's, Wheelers 1.5" HD 3 leaf progressive AAL w/ factory overload leaf, DT Pipe Bomb Ypipe, Vibrant resonator, Magnaflow pro series catback system, URD Short Throw Shift Kit, Debadged, BHLM, BTLM, 6000K BiXenon Headlights & Fogs.
Maybe i can help im running 285/70/17 duratracs on 17x9 , 5" backspace wheels. 5100's at 2.5, 1.5" 3 leaf progressive AAL, stock UCA's. I had to remove mudflaps and the little flaps in front of the front wheels, and i did have to slightly trim the inside of my fender. ill try to grab a pic of that. Currently not rubbing the Cab mount with this setup. I hear that i may rub it if i decide to get aftermarket UCA's but for now the truck tracks fine.

Nice....how does it ride with the Bilsteins that high? So you don't rub when the wheels are turned or flexed either?

I think it's rides just fine. Granted I had 2 jeeps before this so maybe my opinion if a rough ride is different then yours. I haven't tried any major flexing but as of now after fender trim no rubbing at all

Great info from everyone. I appreciate the input. I'm on the fence but may go with 275/70R17 Cooper Discoverer ST-MAXX instead just to buy a bit of breathing room. Looks like a bit of differing opinion on wheel backspace...4.5" or 5" max?

i believe 4.5" is really max. Note that 4.5" makes the wheels stick out more than 5" backspacing
