I’m looking for answers from people have either. I’m wanting 2” of lift in the front. I know you can do that with stock springs on the top notch and also the bottom notch with lift spring. I’m wanting to know why doing lift springs would be better.

Because the factory springs are very soft, and if you compress them to get the lift height you will run into coil bind and have a very stiff ride that bottoms out uncomfortably. You want the longest softest coil you can run for your weight to give you the lift.

887's on the bottom notch are pretty good for a lightly modded truck.

Bistein 5100 recommends you use the stock coils, and that's what I did. My 2/1" rides the same as stock.

    Love it.

*** but that's for the DCSB, I'm not sure about the DCLB.

I believe bilstein won't honor warranty for after
It's the same recommendation but the dcsb can do top perch and ACLB/4x2 dclb should only use 4th

There are better choices for lift. But like most things better, they will cost more too.

Pre load is not your friend off road.

I believe this is a misconception with the 5100s, see https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bilstein-5100-settings-for-dummies.638394/#post-22012313

Would like up with coma toy's account too. I'm just wondering if you lose any up/down travel by changing the circlip on the 5100s.

Did you actually read the posts following the one you linked?

    Lots of users disagreed.

While I will admit I don't have them, I'll also disagree just from what I learned using adjustable coilovers in my SCCA ride.

Preload is not your friend. And it does not leave the installed coil length the same at all settings.

I'm not disagreeing one way or another but wouldn't it be a negative for bilstein to promote using their coilovers this way thus providing a worse ride?

Yeah, it seems highly debated (which is strange cuz this is easy to prove). However, I have noticed more owners of the 5100s saying that they're on the top perch with a same as stock ride. The local Toyota dealership does this service and their service mgr for what it's worth has said the same thing

FWIW Bilstein’s degressive shock. Some like the ride some don’t. 5100’s were great for me. Since then I upgraded to 6112’s. Bilstein spec sheets tell it all. Follow the specs. I ran 5100’s on stock Coils I can tell you there was no ride difference from the 3rd setting to the 5th. When things did change Is when I got e rated tires for better protection off-road. At the end of the day it’s a truck Whatever suspension you go with have fun.

Oh hey, an offroad running 5100s! I've been curious, Did the ride change for you vs our stock 4600s? The stockers seem mega soft (they're digressive too)

    What changed?

I have 5100s on second gen 885 coils. Feels similar/the same as stock with less body roll and brake dive

5100’s are way firmer than oem yes ride changed but in a good way. For me I prefer firmer suspension.

Did, seems that’s just the way off-road performance shocks are made to be… billstein would’ve been the one since they make OEM shocks that have comfort in mind

I had 5100's with stock springs on top perch off-roaded once god awful, you lose a lot of up travel to coil bind and bottoming out feels like *samir you're breaking the car* and the street ride wasn't that great either, anyone whom claims it's the same doesn't pay much attention to how a vehicle actually handles.

A few auto-x weekends teaches you a lot.

I got 887's put on the bottom that was a good ride, then I added weight, had to move them up one clip which isn't recommend so now I'm on Fox 2.5's with 14" 700# coils and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.

Still a little soft with the body roll which seems odd to me because there's hardly any brake dive at all.

Even less than with stock weight and the 5100's with 887's.
