I did pull the tire off, I couldn't see any worn metal parts cause it would take a little to wear the pain off the metal so I took a white paint pen and colored the spots in question. I'm going for a drive then I'll pull the tire back off to see for sure what's rubbing. That's what I afraid of with Toyota but the only off-road shop around can't get me in for 2 weeks and I' have a cross state trip planned for the holidays.

rub grease or something highly visible on the tire and see where it transfers it to. My concern is that a bent component is not visible. Toyota won't even be able to tell you if a spindle is bent, replacing it and re aligning it would be the only way I think.

Definitely hitting the UCA, happened to another member on here I know of after putting a lift on his 3rd gen. He had aftermarket UCAs put on as well though and they were able to adjust the alignment in spec at Firestone and it stopped rubbing.

With a leveling kit you shouldn't need new UCAs but if nothing else works that might be the way to go. Might just be a matter of finding a competent alignment shop though.

Lol, since i knew i would be do all kinds of mods in the future... one of the FIRST things i purchased for my truck was lifetime alignment at Firestone! Can go back as many times as i want, and trust me, in 15 years i have made my money back 100 times over on that investment! :) :) :)

Do you hear it rub all the time when driving? Buy an SJCam or Gopro, or borrow one from a friend and mount it under the truck and take a drive. Thats what i do when i cant figure out a noise or problem in undercarrage. I use and recommend SJCam M20, cheaper and MUCH better than GoPro! SJCam can be bought with waterproof case and basic accessories for little over $100! Best part is, you can explain the expence to the wife by simply hooking it to a selfy stick and claiming you bought it to record all of those special family moments that you dearly charish, lol :)

Looking at your pic again closely... it looks like someone did some turning on your tie rod??? Look at the tie rod, you can see wrench marks, also someone tried to mark the setting with black tape??? also look on the inside of the rim, looks like a score mark from rubbing???? Did you install the 5100's or had a shop do it? Also looks like possibly the sway bar was not removed during the 5100 install. Kinda leaning towards possible installer error, in order to not have to remove the sway bar during 5100 install the just unscrewed the whole tie rod end to make room. Hard to tell without more pics. Check all sway bar bolts and nuts, see if there is wrench marks like it had been removed. My guess is possibly the removed tie rod end, tried to mark the threads with black tape in order to know how far to screw it back on, botched the spacing, so tie rod is sticking out to far. Alignment is compensating for the error until the suspention is under load with the weight of people in the truck and driving conditions. So with suspension movement while driving, could cause scoring on the inside of rim and also abnormal up and down motion causing the tire to come in contact with the bump on the spindle :) i know it sounds like JFK magic bullet theory, but evidence is there based on pic :) Get under the truck and identify and take pics of all the bolts/nuts that have wrench marks from 5100 install (if your ok with that) and post them. That would help everyone out trying to help figure this out :) This has me baffled, i'm trying to think outside the box especially since you mentioned you are taking a trip soon... needa make sure its a safe one :)

I did the install myself, I didn't do anything with the tie rod but I do see in the pic what you're talking about, I did remove the sway bar though. I will pull the tire off again tonight and snap some more pics. And I like the camera idea, I'll have to figure out a way to mount it.

I usually use on like this, its a pretty strong clip. If you have nurf bars, a good place to clip it is on the front mount, you can aim it from there to catch perfect view of the front wheel while driving.

Thanks for the info on the mount! I'll have to wait until day light to do any filming. If it comes to it and for some reason I have to go with new UCA, what would work and what wouldn't?

So I took the truck to local (well respected) off road shop and had them take a look. They were told me the tires aren't rubbing which has me a bit baffled since there are marks on the tire. Rey are going to do another alignment and I'll see if that fixes it. I'm now rubbing on both tires.

I took it to a local off road shop and they did another alignment and the rubbing has stooped from what I can tell. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and help!
