I am ready to do a 2/1 lift with Bilstein 5100 And aal in the back. My question is did anyone keep there stock coils on to do this lift and like it ? Or wish they would of bought new coils. I don’t Plan on doing any real Off reading or anything crazy. Should I be fine?

I went with stock coils on my 5100s. Love it so far. I didnt mind the stock ride, just wanted to level it out. It was a total pain swapping the stock springs though. May be worth a spring upgrade and new top hat just to save you the hassle of finding spring compressors that actually fit and getting everything swapped over.

I went with stock coils on my 5100 lift, AAL, left the overload in. Got about 2.25" front and back in the end. Left me with a small amount of rake which I wanted. Ride is super smooth and has less bounce, feels more deliberate and tighter on the road. Really pleased. I considered changing the coils but I figured it would be better to do that in the future if I ended up adding a bumper/winch, at which time I could be more sure about what coils to add rather than trying to guess now.

Did I read somewhere the 5100s are designed to use with OEM springs only?

I just had my 5100s (3rd notch) with stock coils and Icon AAL installed last Friday and I love it. I don't plan to do much beyond basic trails to go camping so for now it's perfect for what I need it for.

For your use you will probably be fine. You can set the 5100 on second or third notch to gain the lift you want. It would be more ideal to have 5100 set at 0 with a longer spring such as ome but not required.

Thanks for the input sounds like exactly what I want, do you know how much front and back height you achieved from that

I did 5100's with the OEM Springs on my access cab. 4th notch plus a 1/4 spacer and got about 2 inch lift in the front. Wolf AAL in the rear and with a topper, and its very close to even. I might add a 1/2 block for the rear because I often carry tools in the back for work. Ride is a little better than my trd sport shocks, but they were def wearing out after 20k. I like the 5100's a lot over all, especially for the price and now I feel better with the little off-roading that I do as well.

I found it really easy to use the vehicle to remove the springs and reinstall on the new shocks. No spring compressor needed.

Running 5100 adjustable height in the front on the 4th notch to level the truck, 5100 on the back as well. Did not do AAL. I kept my OEM springs on as I only had 3000 miles on the truck when I did the install. To avoid leaving my face splattered all over my garage, I brought the 5100 and stock strut assembly to a local shop to have the springs compressed and the 5100's installed. It was an easy task to remove and install on the truck, just not interested compressing the springs. Very pleased with the ride. Off road use seems fine to me.

    YW!

I gained roughly a total of 4". 2" from the suspension lift and roughly 2" from the increased tire size.

    71tattooguy,
So you used the 5th notch on the 5100's to achieve the 2"s? Great looking truck BTW. I have the TRD Sport so all i am looking for is a lift to fit the Scorpion AT plus 265/70/17R tires.

Great thread. Trying to let the bank recover, but 5100’s are on my list.

What setting did you go with? I’m debating trying stock coils on the 1.75 setting or just using Eibach coils and set them on the lowest setting.

I just used the stock springs. I believe it was the 3rd or 4th notch and got about 1.5” in the front. I did the Toyotech AAL in the rear and left the overload spring. It added about 1.25”. I still have close to the factory rake and honestly the ride is better then stock. I’m just waiting for costco to get my new tires in still....

Definitely 5100’s great lift for the price No complaints over here. Mine actually feel like they have softened up a bit as well.
