I dont have the measurements for you but if you cant get them in time just keep the 1/4" spacer on the driver side to be safe until you do get a replacement 1/2". Coils are super simple to drop to add spacers so don't force something if you don't end up getting the right specs.

Hi all! I'm freaking out a little and need some professional, or very experienced, input.

My 885s and 5100s were installed today. I left a note for the shop, explaining that I wanted the Bilsteins set a 0, the 1/2 inch spacer installed on the driver's side and the 1/4 inch spacer installed on the passengers side.

I went to pick up the truck today and the front end was WAY HIGH! The shop said that the coilovers were almost impossible to install and that they needed two pry bars and needed to lift the truck with the hoist to get all the weight off. I told him that I had read that lots of DIYselfers did this set up in their garage. He was skeptical.

I assumed that the coils would need to "break in" and would sag after some driving, but was looking for some reassurance from the tech. He said that they should settle a little, but if they didn't the worst case scenario would be that we would need to remove ALL the spacers and "not just the 1/4 inch ones".

I should mention that I was replacing the stock shocks and coils that have a 2.75 inch leveling spacer, with the 5100/885 setup to have the coil add the lift.

The tech had taken the leveling spacer off the stock setup and put it on the new set up, along with the 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch spacers!

His excuse was that I didn't mention that I DIDN'T want it added!

In any event, he is going to remove the leveling spacer.

The truck is sitting at the shop and has NOT been driven in this condition.

    My question is:

Could there be, or is it likely, that there is damage to any parts of the front end or new shocks or coils from having this installed with the coil overs being so long? He is going to do the right thing and remove the leveling spacer, but what, if anything, should I be concerned about or watch for or ask about?

He said that this scenario wouldn't hurt anything.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

My experience with the same set up was that anything other then the 1/4 inch spacer on the driver side for the bro lean you would have been ok. I tried to install a 5/8” spacer on both sides and ran into the upper control arm hitting the coil at full droop, no way they would clear the UCA without replacing with aftermarket designed for a taller lift, I removed the spacer and put the coil over back in with no issue. I don’t think you will hurt anything at this point just get it back to no spacer or just 1/4 for driver side lean and you should be ok. Once again I’m not a tech and I am only telling you what i experienced.

Thanks! I'd do have the LR UCAs, so that's not going to be an issue. I appreciate the response. I'm just worried that something got bent/damaged/broken having this, overly long, component forced into place. The coil is, obviously, compressed to fit within the space it now occupies. I hope I just speeds up the "break in period" for sag.

I was SO excited to get this done... it's a double whammy, not having it be great AND also having it done wrong...

    Bummer.

Check the rubber CV axle boots on the front and the places the CV axles mate with the hub and the front diff. Most likely they had to force those in if there was over a 3" lift and no diff drop in place. Bearings in those two joints on CV the might be stretched a bit. If it hasnt been moved around a ton you should be alright but I am assuming they rolled it off the lift and out of the shop. Probably wont be too much wear on them but I would advise checking them out before you leave.

I've got that driver side lean. Where exactly can I get that spacer? And it seems a lot more than 1/4"

I got my spacers from @wheelersoffroad who are awesome. The 1/4 spacer will more then likely fix your driver side lean. I was told that the Bilstein 5100’s with the 885 coil springs would give me 2 inches if lift the 5/8 spacer would give me a further 1/2” of lift. I didn’t see a lean in my truck and if there is one I don’t notice

All is good in the world. Spacers were removed and the truck looks GREAT!! Front is sitting at 23 1/4 both sides, from middle of center cap. The rear is adjustable, as I have the air bags. I set the rear at 23 3/4 inches. Turns out, my shocks were toast (go figure... 10 year old truck). The ride is AMAZING! Like, AMAAAAAAZING!!! Like AMAZING AMAAAAAAAAZING!!!!
No body roll, very tight steering and rebound. The truck feels "tighter". It's a little stiffer, but in a great sporty way. We have frost heaves where I am (where the road has heaved up horizontally across the road, like a mini speed bump). They are barely noticeable now. There are no more "jolts" then hitting a bump and the drive is just more comfortable, period. 1/2 inch spacer driver's - 1/4 spacer passenger's side. It gets aligned today.

ALL-TECH Auto Care, for anyone in Edmonton, CANADA.
I had them do the alignment with the spacer lift and LR UCA's and they got:

    Final Primary Angles

    Caster---Left---3.8 degrees
    Caster---Right---4.0 degrees
    Camber---Left---0.7 degrees
    Camber---Right---0.8 degrees
    Toe---Left---1/32"
    Toe---Right---1/32"
    Total Toe---1/16"

Hoping for the same today, as it drove beautifully!!

Thanks for all the replies and help, everyone!! I appreciate the input and sense of community!!

    Take care,

    Barrett

I'll post picture soon for reference heights etc

Here are the new alignment numbers:

    NEW Front
    Caster---Left---4.1 degrees Specs min 1.1 max 2.6
    Caster---Right---5.0 degrees Specs min 1.1 max 2.6
    Camber---Left---0.6 degrees Specs min -0.3 max 1.3
    Camber---Right---1.3 degrees Specs min -0.3 max 1.3
    Toe---Left---1/32" Specs min 0 max 1/16"
    Toe---Right---0 Specs min 0 max 1/16"
    Total Toe---1/32" Specs min 0 max 3/32"

    NEW REAR
    Camber---Left--- -0.2
    Camber---Right--- 0.0

    Toe---Left--- -1/16"
    Toe---Right--- -1/16"
    Total--- -3/32"

    OLD Front
    Caster---Left---3.8 degrees
    Caster---Right---4.0 degrees
    Camber---Left---0.7 degrees
    Camber---Right---0.8 degrees
    Toe---Left---1/32"
    Toe---Right---1/32"
    Total Toe---1/16"

    OLD REAR
    Camber---Left--- -0.1
    Camber---Right--- -0.2

    Toe---Left--- 1/32"
    Toe---Right--- -1/16"
    Total--- -1/16"

I am totally ignorant to whether these are okay. Alignment guy said he's no worried about the -0.2 camber on the left rear. The OLD camber numbers were within .1 of each other and the NEW camber numbers are .7 apart. Is this okay?? Are they supposed to be equal? They are still within spec, but the right is at the max. Input appreciated!

Alright guys. Ive read through maybe 1/2 of this thread. I have a 2017 DC sr5 4x4, and Im thinking about going with the 5100s with the 887 coils for the full 3 inches. Im aware that ill need new UCAs if I go the full 3 and im fine with that. Also want to get the heavy dakars for the rear. I want to run 285/75r17s under there. I do plan on getting some type of bumper not sure yet if steel or aluminum. I also either want a camper shell, or a bed rack with a tent on top. Has anyone done this? Would I be better off going with the 886 coils? like I said ive read nearly half of this thread and I didn't see anyone using the 887 coils, so that's why im asking if anyone has done this? If anyone has done this post those pictures please.

Ok I’ve read through the majority of this thread and I think I found someone on the first page that had the set up I am thinking about. I currently have a set of used 885s installed on 5100s. I have an unknown single AAL in the rear. I have a slight rake that is probably a bit more than factory.

I am still eligible for the new style leaf packs. If I had that TSB done, would I end up with a huge amount of bro lean? I’d prefer to be near level, or even a minuscule amount of bro lean. Anyone here been that route? The picture on the first page doesn’t tell me a whole lot.
