Did you ever figure out what tire you wanted run? My truck will be in need of new tires soon as well and I figure now might be a good time to get bigger tires and a lift. I was thinking of the exact same setup as yourself with the 885s and 5100s w/AAL in the rear to achieve a 2.5" lift and want to run a 285 but I'm hearing different things as well about rubbing.

Would you recommend running a 285 tire in my scenario? My Tacoma is a 2WD and my Daily Driver so I won't/can't really be doing any off-roading lol. I just want to achieve a 2.5" lift and have my truck look a little beefier with bigger tires wrapped over some SCS F5s without any rubbing or sacrificing the ride since it is my daily. I've looked into 275s but the BFG KO2s are E rated and I heard that an E rating is overkill for our trucks.

Nice! I just saw that Costco has a sale on the KO2s currently for $110 off until September 23. Total would be 948.92 before taxes if you're interested in buying now.

Hi Richard, If you did a 2 1/2 in lift and did a BMC and triming it would clear. if you don't do the BMC and trimming it is going to rub and on thos new tires. If your really not going to off road you may not want to spend the money.
It will look and ride with 885's and 5100's and AAL's. Then I'd put a beefier tire on it. Maybe KO2's 275's

Let us know what you decide

Hey Tony, Thanks for your help! I figured that a BMC and trim would be needed in order to clear a 285. And I originally was looking into 275 KO2s as well but thought an E rated tire might be overkill since it would basically only see pavement and possibly snow. You do have a good point though as I am only really going for the aesthetics rather than actually utility, so I might have to rethink if I want to spend the money on a full lift, wheels, and tires. Will definitely update whenever I pull the trigger and upgrade everything from stock.

Your truck looks awesome by the way!

Hey KingTaco247, if you do get the SCS F5s, makes sure you pay attention to the offset of the wheel. I have the Ray10s in (-38 et) and that added poke really changes the extent as to how much you will rub if you go with a larger tire and no lift. I can't remember exactly now, but I believe the F5 comes in two offsets (-38 being the more aggressive one), the lower offset resulting in less poke and therefore less rubbing at full lock. I wrapped my Ray10s in 265/70-17 Falken Wildpeaks before my lift and had to cut, bend, chop, weld, and melt and shape to get the rubbing to stop. Still didn't go away entirely until I put the 5100s on coupled with the 885. For comparison, I had the same Wildpeaks on my Fuel wheels previously and never had any rubbing issues--didn't need to make any alterations with that set up (I don't recall the specs of those Fuel wheels unfortunately).

All the information provided here is very useful, but just remember that if you aren't comparing offset of wheels as well, your results could be very different than somebody else with what would otherwise be an identical set-up.

I too am on the market for some new rubber and want to go with 285/70-17 on my Ray10s, but feel like I am going to bring the rubbing back. Also, I recently started rubbing in reverse at full lock--looks like my truck is starting to settle a bit.

Hey Kopasz, thanks for your advice regarding keeping the offset in mind! I originally was looking at the 17x9 with the -38 offset since I loved how it poked but then realized I may have issues with rubbing and don't want to take the risk. So I would be looking to get the 17x8.5 with the -10 offset if and when SCS restocks the F5s and I decide to pull the trigger haha. And that's interesting how you're experiencing some rubbing right now with 265s. I thought with a CMC and removing/melting some of the plastic liner would help eliminate the rubbing and allow a 285 to fit lock to lock?

285s are fine sitting level turned lock to lock, thanks to the previous trimming, but they are rubbing at times with aggressive turning at higher speeds. It really isn't as bad as it could be, so I don't plan on ding any more trimming yet, but we'll see how annoying it gets. It definitely isn't as bad as the 265 Wildpeaks on the SCS before i did all the trimming and bending.

for clarification, wondering if this would create a level lift for the truck. Currently own a 2016 4x4 4cyl/5speed. My goal is 2" since I don't want to replace the UCAs. I also have a Leer XR shell in the back so I would need something to compensate for the weight.

    * Billies w/ 885 OME coils
    * 1.5" Toytec block rear

Should be fine with that set up. You would also need the rear billies. Give Marie at Headstrong a call and you will be set.

Will do. I’m split between 884 vs 885 since I have an AC with no front bumper or winch.

I really used this thread to make my decision with 5100's and OME 885's w/ deaver AAL and couldn't be happier with the results, so I thought I'd share some information on my results.

I'm currently running 265/75/r16 KO2's and after the lift, they kind of look small. Might need to go with bigger tires , but not until I use up the tread on my current tires, or maybe they need to settle a bit.

I personally feel a significant upgrade in ride quality from stock. I also got my suspension installed at Duggy's Garage in Houston which I cannot recommend enough. They are so awesome. On my first truck, I had it done by a guy who did it for dirt cheap, and I paid the repercussions of that. I'm sure I could've done this current installation myself if I really wanted to from the vast knowledge I've gained from this website, but I really preferred professional and quality work from the PTSD I got from my previous lift experience.

I really enjoy trying to find bargain deals on parts on this website, so this is kind of the route I decided to go. Maybe if someone else is interested in going this route, it might help them too!

    - $200 Bilstein 5100's front/rear -- I purchased from another TW member with less than 10k miles on them
    - $100 Leaf Pack (From a 2018 OR Tacoma) - Originally, I thought about going with OME MD Dakar's because my current stock leaf packs were shot, but I decided to purchase used leaf packs from a 2018 OR with less than 5k miles from a TW member.
    - $325 COMBO (OME 885's/Deaver AAL/1/4" Spacer) - From Headstrong Offroad. Great knowledgeable people there who explained every stupid question I had.
    - $925 Suspension Installation - Done at duggy's garage. Go there if you're local! They are real quality work and wont try to sell you any extra bullcrap. Just for example, I tried calling two other shops for estimates, and they tried to get me to purchase new UCA's, hardware, accessories, etc. I told duggy's what I had, and they said that will work and that's that.

I got 2 1/4" on driver side and 2 1/2" on the passenger side with 885's with a steel bumper.
This has been trouble free and a very nice ride.
Should get yourself some Super bumps up front too.
    My 5100 are at 0.
My AAL was from Wheelers and I got almost 2".
The AAL was a great improvement vs just a spacer and was easy to install.
Was like $75 and I got 2" from that.
Still running stock shocks in the back.
This is from right after installing.

In comparison with the 2nd gen vs. 3rd gen AC, how much of a difference is there? Would running 885's with no aftermarket weight in the front yield me 2"- 2 1/2" lift? Currently have the 2.7L engine. Not sure if the four-cylinder and six have much weight difference (primarily engine) where I would have to consider weight difference and potentially going down to a 884 to avoid having the front lean up higher.

I want to avoid using a spacer lift and avoid getting aftermarket UCAs since I'm using this truck as an everyday vehicle, rarely ever riding down anything more than the occasional service roads.

Just realized you have a 3rd gen.
    I don't know about 3rd gens.

    Hey Kyle,
Out of all you mentioned just an OME CB drop kit for the drive line angle and I have had NO issues whatsoever. It drives great on and offroad. The front does not dip when breaking which is awesome.
