I have a 2004 Tacoma, 4 banger Xtra cab. I have all stock components on as of now and 31" tires.

Some sites I've looked at advise not to put the Bilstein 5100's and AAL packages on this lighter truck. I only want to add 1.5-2", as I really do not want to have to do any other pricy mods to transmission or handling.

I have tried searching on here, but people do things all so differently, and on different models, I have had a hard time assimilating all the info. Just hoping someone might be able to advise me on the proper "kit". I just want improved off-road capability, but still good on-road, lift somewhere in the 2" range, and support in the rear to keep my camper shell on and throw anywhere from 50-150 pounds in there on weekend trips.

This work will be done by a Toyota dealership. They've offered to put the "off-road" package on it, but they seriously can't even tell me what the parts are, other than, "they're the ones that come with the package, duh". So I was hoping to be able to go in there with all of the parts that they would need. So the package is an option, but I figure If I have to pay for that package at Toyota prices, I might as well find something just a bit nicer.

Thanks for any tips or advice!

That is what I have : 5100's (at lowest setting) with OME 881's in the front and progressive AAL and 5125's in the rear. Handles great on and off road. About 1.5 inches of lift.

Dobinson’s coils and shocks. SOS sliders, ditch light brackets, and front skid. Rigid ditch lights. BFG KO(dos) More minor stuff.
I just ordered the 5100s and 2" AAL from Wheeler's. Best price I found. Out of stock on the AAL but emailed and told me when to expect it. Will be going on a 02 reg cab 4x4. Will put up pics when done. Got to schedule a day with a buddy and we are doing it in the garage. There are tons of pictorials and help on here. I'm not worried about doing it myself.

Awesome. Thanks! Going with the 5100's with stock springs, toytec AAL, and 2* axle shims.

One more question though....some sales descriptions say that most AAL will fit under stock u-bolts. Does anyone have first-hand experience for a stock setup on the 1st gens?

You can crawl under your truck with a flashlite, and look at the bottoms of the u-bolts. See how much thread is below the nuts. That will tell you how much thicker your spring pack can be with those u-bolts.

BluePearlShark, the progressive leaf was way more than the one I bought, so probably. I purchased the Toytec leaf set that only comes with a center pin.
