You could overextend a shock causing it to blow.

I most situations they won't blow.....I had ran them for awhile and was fine just lost the extra droop. In most offroad situations you want as many wheels on the ground as possible so pick a line that allows that if suspension travel is the limiting factor. If your running through whoops at speed and the shock is the limiting factor on droop you'll have issues then. However, you shouldn't be running through whoops beyond your capability anyways!

In general, you're better off getting a high quality shock like icon, fox or king in the length as close to your travel numbers. I think icon makes the longest 10" travel shock where the bump numbers are still good. Also, DSM sells the "Oakley TRD" 10" travel fox that should work (it's got a custom valved flutter stack too). Was built for an AZ member here!

Has anyone tried running 5160 up front??? because they have them for some other trucks fords and they look to have a similar design and mounting types.

I don't think the 5160's have spring perch's, on the SA f- series the shock sits inside the coil, but the coil doesn't touch the shock.
