I see where your logic is coming from, and I also won't sit here and pretend that I'm an engineer. I also held that thought process when I began getting into these trucks. However, we sell a lot of suspensions and I've been behind the wheel for probably every major shock on the market at this point. My experience has been this - For the daily driver or weekend warrior we find that the digressive shocks ride better overall. The Kings, while progressively valved, are generally stiffer at slow speeds. When I say "slow" speeds I am talking 35mph or less. Speeds like that is where most people honestly find themselves, especially offroad.

That said, be committed to the SEND IT mentality and those Kings will be buttery smooth when there are washboards and the like.

Is it just the finishes that changed on the 6112/5160 or were any of the internals revised?

Were any of the seals or valving changed?

When did the revisions take place to the finishes and what was the purpose behind it?

Can you provide a picture of the original vs the revised finishes?

I do have most of that! Of course I'm no Bilstein engineer, but I did talk to one and got some details.

6112 has a new banded piston for more consistent valving - New "super spacers" which are just essentially a new/more robust internal spacer design - The black labelling for a branding change - Body now has a clear coat on it

5160 has the same new clearcoat and decal treatment as the 6112s plus - the billet clamp is standard affixing the reservoir to the shock body. No more frame mounts - The endcap design has changed and fittings have changed. Design change is intended to increase long-term durability against leaking.

They alluded to some valving changes, but didn't expand on them. Having been around them all I don't notice anything. I can get you a photo of them today. I actually have an old 6112 set. Not sure why

Yeah that was a weird one. Not sure exactly why Bilstein packed your set that way! :notsure:

Just threw in an Ironman 4x4 medium leaf pack and pretty sure my 5160s are going to fully extend and top out. Have any of you guys had this happen or figured out a solution other than going with new shocks? fenders sit 40 inches to the ground now, granted I have only put 20 or so miles on them so far, maybe they'll drop.

Is there anything like this around for the tacoma?

How do you like the R/T01's? I have a set of these and BFGs coming in tomorrow and need to decide which I want.

    Falken Rubitreks:
As advertised. Not noisy.. but not a highway tire dressed up for Halloween as an AT one (like the stock Goodyears). Blocks are little tighter than Wildpeaks and my local tire shop owner sold me on that "river" down the middle that makes it more highway friendly and reduces noise. It's' truely a bridge - he said, " I think it's the tire most hunters like you (outdoor folks) need if they daily drive w/ it too. All signs point to he was right. He also said he could not even buy them from his supplier at $151 a tire that Amazon was selling them for (haven't checked recently).

Anyone with a trdor, 6112’s on the highest setting 11/9, 600lb springs and no front added weight can you measure from center hub to fender in the front? Trying to see how the 6112’s compare on the top setting to my factory struts and spacers. Want to make sure I don’t end up lower for some reason. I didn’t install the spacers, they were already on there.

I’m also a bit worried about this as I plan on installing the dobinsons medium or heavy leaf pack in the near future with my existing 5160s.
