When I installed, I put thin layers of suspension grease between each leaf. Knock on wood, I still have zero squeaks. And I regularly use my truck off road and it is rarely seen clean. From what I understand the noise comes from getting debris between the leafs and even occurs with stock trucks.

I have that set up w/ Dakar medium leafs. I had wheelers superbumps and u bolt flip. I was bottoming out too easily. Switched to OEM bump stop. Flexing on them #o's.

I would say if you start with e rated and never bother with C then you wouldnt knownthe difference. It drove fine, but stiffer steering, bit stiffer over bumps in road, overall it's less tacoma like and more full size if that makes sense. I guess you would need to drive a f150 or something to know what I'm talking about lol.

The problem is I went from E to C and immediately after getting in the truck after the shop was done I felt it was better overall and suited the Taco better. Just my .02

I have the Bilstein 6112/5160 on my 17' DCSB OR, no lift, along with 245/75-16 General Grabber AT tires load E, imho the load E tires are too hard for every day use. I haven't had a single problem with them, and after re-balancing they're very smooth on the highway up to the speed rating of the tire, but in retrospect an E tire is too hard riding on a Tacoma.

I’m looking to go that route. How does it compare to the stock kevlars? Ride, mpg?

    Set on 5th highest perch
    315/70r17 BFG KO2 E rated @ 34 PSI
Rear leaf pack: Skyjacker Softride (was free)

Impressions: Smoother than stock all the time, on and off road. We have recessed manholes on the city streets and it’s a pretty hard hit at any speed when going over them is my only complaint.

Overall with the amount of labor needed to do it right I would have saved up for a better suspension kit like Kings or maybe Fox in hopes of a smoother ride.

I ran E rates tires for a week, and got rid of them.

I loved the stiff and more planted ride quality, but the hit to MPG and performance was too much for me to deal with everyday dayI

MPG varies from 16.5 when I am driving like an A$$ up to 19.5 when I am driving conservatively.

My stiffness in ride up front comes from my 650lb coils but I wouldn't say the E rated Tires make the ride any more harsh as compared to the Wildpeak 4Plys I had on there previously.

Ride is great. Better wet traction. Better traction in all aspects on and off road. About 2mpg less. I have a heavy foot, so hard to tell how much the tires affected mpg.

Did you install the shocks and tires at the same time? Or had one before the other?

I like it! And smoother than stock is still a good thing.

Much improved ride over stock. I find the E rated tires with this setup to be a pretty solid performer. I live in a land of potholes in central BC. I travel the forestry roads and never in the mood for changing tires at 11 pm at night.

Sounds like the 6112/5160 combo should be a good fit for my needs.

Something to firm up the body roll and brake dive for daily driving, but won't ride like a tank either.

Something that won't break the bank, and will perform well offroad on weekends etc.

I will most likely add the suspension before buying tires. If I go big on the tires, they will almost all be load E anyway.

And if it goes that far, I will be looking at twin turbo kit and probably regearing I'm sure. This is my long term vision. Haha.

Is anyone running more than 1.5 inches of rear lift with the 5160s?

Bilstein lists the 5160 shocks are designed for up to 1.5 inches of rear lift.

I'm wondering if I ended up with a little more lift would that cause problems?

I'm thinking it would just limit down travel if you lifted slightly more than 1.5 inch...say if 2.5 inch rear lift then you'd lose 1 inch of down travel due to the shock limiting it.

Someone please by all means fix this if it is not correct

I'm gonna say it would be to avoid over extending the shock "topping out" and could cause issues

i have the (discontinued) 2nd gen TRD branded 6112/5160 combo with a 3 leaf AAL, 285/75/16 KO2’s on Taco Pro wheels average 19.5mpg @ 40-45 psi. 17.5mpg @ 30-35psi. The ride is stiffer than stock but better in my opinion

How's the tire wear at 40-45 psi? Or have you ran that long enough to say...
