well first of all are all kits (that include both 5160 and 6112) the same? prices are different and i cant see the differences
what additional items do i need to purchase? (bushing, pads, blocks, etc)
do i need a diff drop? some say i do, others say i dont
Also some people say i need AAL, what is that? and which one do i buy?
Upper control arms, are they essential if the truck is brand new?

I don’t know about the kits. I bought everything individually. Just check the components lists and go from there.

Read some install threads and they usually include parts lists and the additional components needed. As a rookie if you’re doing the install yourself I would order the struts fully assembled with new top hats. If you do that the 6112 will basically be plug and play.

I did about 1.5” and didn’t do a diff drop.

AAL = Add A Leaf. It basically beefs up your leaf spring pack with an additional leaf that adds some lift. This also stiffens the ride and increases the load capacity. There is plenty of info out there on these. I personally put an entirely new leaf pack in to improve load capacity and prevent sag when towing.

Upper control arms are to help fix alignment issues when you lift over about 2”. You can probably skip this for now. If you lift that much you’ll know if you have alignment issues and can do this later.

I have the Bilstein 6112/5160 setup and Icon AALs with SPC UCAs shop around on price the 5160 are always on backorder. Reach out to Battle Born off-road Jordan Sheahan he should have some in stock and good prices. AALs give you the lift in the rear, UCAs are not 100 percent necessary with this kit as it is not an extended travel coil over, however it does help with alignment. Diff drop is recommended but again not 100 percent necessary

also every website that sells these bilsteins says that they don't fit my tacoma, is it a mistake, is 2019 not in the system or something? i was under the impression that 2018 and 2019 are virtually identical

Got all my parts on Amazon, didn't even need any of the additional things OP listed lol. Install the suspension, got a 2/1 inch lift and I'm good

Yeah 5160’s with a 1.5 AAL and 3 degree aluminum shims gives a nice quiet squeak free and vibration free ride...although it’s slightly stiffer than stock I’m still very happy with it.

Do you notice any performance gain with the external reservoir?
