I have the stock TRD O/R on the rear now because the 5160s were out of stock. However they have now shipped and I expect to have them on next week after removing the TRD O/R shocks. End results will be Bilstein 6112 front / 5160 rear.

Just adding some more photos for those that may be looking for the Bilstein 6112 / 5160 set up on their Tacoma.

Today I received the 5160s for the back suspension change out. Saw upon unpacking that these are stamped as being built right in Germany. Cosmetics of the back shocks and reservoirs is extremely impressive, especially considering the relatively inexpensive cost. All necessary fasteners (incudes a spacer for the brake lines over the top of the axle), reservoir brackets, and instructions are provided with the exception of the factory lower rear shock bolt/washer/nut. Packaging was substantial with heavy duty package staples to secure the product from any damage during transit.

Removal of the OEM rear shocks is a cakewalk, however the Bilstein product required more intricate fasteners that attach the reservoirs to the frame. Everything provided seemed top notch and very well designed. The difficult part was primarily involving the attachment of the reservoir to the passenger side in front of the shock assembly due to the extremely tight working conditions. The exhaust silencer hampers the ability to get your hand/arm in position to attach the two fasteners and blocking plate in place on the inside of the frame rail while securing it to the reservoir bracket on the outside of the frame rail. I also found it difficult to get my torque wrench in position easily but did find it possible. The install was done with the OEM rear springs. I have not determined what my final bed weight will be yet, so I'm holding off at the moment for rear lift.

After the install I headed out to flex the back shocks to attempt max articulation as much as possible. There is definitely more droop and it appears the stuff is better too. No time for further testing today.

115 mm is just a hair over 4 1/2 inches. Your driver side looks a little close to the bracket and the passenger side looks just about right to me?

Hey guys. I'm just butting in as I do some research trying to get up to speed. What does it take to adjust the ride height? I get the sense it's not as easy as just turning a ring or something? Also, what is your sense of how the ride would be on my lightweight regular cab with the 600 lb springs? Still too stiff?

Here are the install instructions link for the 05-15 Tacoma. I would definitely pursue these instead of the 3rd gen product to get the right valving. Wondering if you could start off on the lowest clip position and see what the results are? would be guess work and potential more work for adjustments unless someone has actually installed them on a regular cab.

They do list lift height for a 4x2 which is a lighter vehicle ( believe these are Bilstein assembly instructions)

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but did you have the need to add an Upper Control Arm with the 6112's in front? Thanks.

No need to add an upper control arm. The stock UCA works fine with the 6112's.

No, I had no need with the 6112s. I've done well over 1000 miles offroad without any issues. Did the entire Colorado Back Country Discovery route as well.

The stock UCA's should be good to go.
