Honestly they feel amazing. On the road, the truck handles like a sports car. Off road it’s pretty smooth. They’re on the stiffer side since I have the preload set to the max recommended adjustment but big dips in the trail feels really nice. It’s just the small chattery stuff that drives me crazy. If it wasn’t for the noise I’d rate them 10/10.

I saw the 8112's after I bought Fox Elite's and kind of wish I had bought them instead. Hopefully Bilstein can get this sorted out for you asap.

So I had to order both struts from different places due to back orders. Hotshot Offroad got me sorted out with a warranty replacement, just waiting for things to finalize. They’ve been super great and I couldn’t recommend them enough. I ordered the other one from Mudify and it’s def taking some time, slow to respond or they say they’re still sorting it out. Though they were awesome when I placed my original order. With the holidays here, I’m sure it’s gonna be a minute before I get this situated.

Another update. I got my drivers side warranty strut from Hotshot (again, incredibly fast shipping). Though, while I wait for Mudify (yes, STILL waiting) I decided to get my hands on a used/new set of Westcott preload collars for the Fox struts; really to just have a backup set of struts whenever suspension services are due but also to see if by running them gets rid of the noise. Well, I installed the collars and put the Fox struts back in with a 1/4” shim instead of Westcotts 1/2” for 2.5” lift total and the noises are gone, it rides like a dream.
Also, Westcott says this kit isn’t a spacer lift but, the preload collar only adds a half inch of lift and the other 1” comes from a shim/spacer. Just thought that was hilarious, kind of a money grab I think but whatev. I’m stoked the noises are gone. Hopefully whenever/if I get the other strut from Mudify and get those installed there won’t be any more clunks cause I really want to like those 8112s!

Good deal man. It’s pretty hard to beat the feeling and ‘just works’ of the oem fox kit. Lift collars from Westcott making it even more enjoyable. I’m also wanting to pull the trigger on the 8112’s so hopefully it all works out.
Almost went with ADS over the Thanksgiving break. Holding for now. Good stuff man.

Some people say theirs don’t make any noise and some say they do. One guy said Bilstein told him an audible click was normal to hear while I was told I shouldn’t hear anything. Lol. I dunno what it is. Again… They ride amazing, the noise is awful, honestly it’s hard to say if I would buy them again…

Mine make clicking noises from day 1, more of a clunk below freezing into negative temps, and Bilstein even openly stated that these damper make noises.

This is what I’m talking about, lol. Some peoples are noisy and some aren’t. One guys from Bilstein says they’re noisy, another one says they aren’t. Its crazy. Mine have never clicked. Only clunked/knocked. A subtle click would be bearable. The clunking and feeling it in my floorboard over every tiny bump in our s***y roads gets real annoying. They’re great offroad…. But damn!

UPDATE: So after Bilstein told me, “you shouldn’t be hearing any noises at all”. With that justification I reached out to the places I purchased them from and got 2 new 8112s warrantied (which is awesome). Mudify was one, and it took them about 2 months. ANYWAY, installed the new struts today and the clunking remains. So, I guess they’re just clunky. I dunno what else to do. I’d really like to speak to someone “important” at Bilstein to get their take. I have followed their instructions to a T. I know it’s not the truck because it doesn’t do it with the Westcott lift. Anyway, hopefully this will help someone in the future. I wouldn’t purchase these again just because the noise.

I’m on 5100’s they clunk, I have installed 6112’s and 8112’s they all clunk and clack. Kind of bump up the volume and drive them until they become dust.

Maybe it's the lower shock bolts?

I had a clunk before I installed 6112s. During my install I removed the front sway bar and installed the 4runner lower shock bolts. Clunk is now gone. One of those 3 fixed it and the ride is so much better.

I removed my skid and sway bar and it didn’t do anything for me. I think a slight possibility that it could be that the 8112s are much stiffer than OEM Fox and the clunk could be the front body mounts, though they look OK.

    4runner lower shock bolts?
I dont know first hand but I believe this is a tapered vs non tapered bolt that would eliminate any play giving you that possible clunk noise.
What bolts are you using? Stock Tacoma stuff?

I’ll add that since I’ve added a front bumper/winch and 700lb springs and took some preload off the springs, the clunking is less noisy.
