New member here. Been reading for a while and received some great info. I have a 2013 regular cab 4x4.

Just bought a set of 5100's and a 1.5" single AAL from wheelers. Installed at the 1.75" setting up front. I know my truck is light so i thought the lift might be a touch higher than advertised, but I actually got 4" of lift (plus or minus an eighth) at every corner. Also the ride is bone chattering stiff.

Any other regular cab owners out there have experience with getting much more lift than advertised? Ive driven maybe 10 miles and it settled 1/8". Can I expect significant more settling? I can't imagine I'll be able to get this thing anywhere near the correct alignment with this much lift.

Am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy new coils in front and perhaps a progressive AAL in back? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

It sounds like something isn't right up front. Can you post pictures?

There's obviously something wrong with the way they are installed, no possible way to get 4" of lift out of bilstein 5100's.. Unless what springs are you using? If its stock springs then something is wrong

I do have these photos just to show how high it is. Obviously these won't help determine if the install was incorrect, but you can see the result.

Typically when this happens, it means the 5100 spring perch was installed upside down.

They are rusty old steel rims. The previous owner transferred his wheels to his new truck when he traded it in, so these are probably just the cheapest things he could find to throw on there.

I'd say perch is upside down as well. The coils are stock? Shoot some pics of the coils when you get a chance. I can't explain why the rear would lift 4 inches though. I see the tape where you are measuring to but where are you measuring from? Hub or ground?

bjmoose, you may be right. After looking at lots of pics online, I'm starting to question myself as to which way I installed the perch. I will check this when I get home. Thanks so much for all the responses, even though I kinda feel like an idiot now.

It happens a lot man. That's why we say that is the first thing to check . Does not explain rear though. That's a mystery right now. I can see 2 or 2.5" and it will settle but not 4

If there was beer involved in the installation process you can blame on the beer. I did. I used a 1/2 inch spacer on the top of the perch on the driver side easy peesy. By the time I got to the 1/4 inch spacer on the passenger side I was 4 beers in. I put the spacer under the perch between the perch and the spring. As I started to assemble it I chuckled and said to myself "dumb ass". Fixed it and installed it correctly. That beer will make you do silly things.

I'll confirm the perch is flipped tonight and re look at the rear measurement. I was so concerned about the front that maybe I did some incorrect math on the rear.

And yes there was beer. Could have thrown off my judgement and math.

Not unusual to get more lift (or less) than the preload setting.

    I got 1.5" at .85, myself.

    5100's all around. Front's set at 1.75" 265/75/16 Duratracs.
Yes the perches are upside down, same exact thing happened to me when I let a shop install them for me. Had to draw a damn picture to show them how to do it correctly.

Looks like y'all were right. Upside down perches. Turned em over, set them to 2.5" setting since the back was higher than expected. Haven't driven it much to settle it, but now the front is up 3" on average and the rear 2.25" (my original measurement on the rear must have been after the last beer in the 6 pack). Now to let it settle a bit and see how close the alignment shop can get.

    Thanks for all the input.

If you don't mind me asking - how much did this cost? I'm looking at doing the same thing. Besides the upside down perch, how hard was the install? Did you buy only 2 front billies and the pair of leafs and it came with all the necessary hardware to get it set up and drive ready?
