2.5" lift. Bilstein shocks all the way around, Falken Rocky mountain ats2 265/70/17, BHLM, thrush welded muffler, bed liner undercarriage, fender flares and rocker panels, nfab light bar, led off-road lights, grillcraft grill with old Toyota emblem, secondary air filter removed, cb radio, extra hooks in bed, removed front mud flaps, painted pinch weld black.
Hey everyone. Here is the problem yesterday I installed bilstein 5100 shocks on my truck set at 2.5". I had a shop switch the coils over to my new shocks. Install went fairly smooth except for a broken bolt where the sway bar hooks to the frame. I probably shouldnt have done this but decided to drive home with it like that. Truck drove fine except for the occasional clunk when i hit a bump which i thought to be the sway bar. Today when i looked at the shock on the passenger side the top part where the nut comes out was extended farther then it should be. You can slide the washer and bushing up and down freely. It was not like that when I installed the shock assembly on the truck. It was flush like it should be. Did i mess something up or is the shock damaged? Or could it be the sway bar messing it up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My truck is a 2005 regular cab btw. Pic will be below.

Sway bar wouldn't cause that. Almost seems like the shock is too long. Between the threaded part and the part that butts up against the mount on the bottom side. That clunk you heard may have been the shock moving up and down. I would double check the part numbers on the box to make sure it's exactly the right one.

This happened to me the first time I installed my 5100s. If I remember right there is supposed to be a rubber shim that slides on the shaft of the shock and pinches between where is sits on the shaft and the under side of the tower.

This would make sense. I can't remember what all parts were involved when I installed mine.

Thanks for the help. I figured out the problem. The shop put the washer that is supposed to be on the bottom of the plate on top. There are two washers on top of plate and none underneath. Ill have to get it redone. Thanks for the replies.
