so the topic we have to write about is the process of carbon or nitrogen as it moves through the environment. from the sky to the plants to the soil and so on.

I'm confused on where to start the paper, i have chosen to explain the process for nitrogen. but confused on how, if its possible, that nitrogen gets from the sky into plants or soil.
Im a business major so i have no background with science as you can tell haha.
have looked some up on google but that is kinda confusing me more than helping any.

so any input would be great,
    thanks guys!

Do you not have a textbook to assist you with this? You're writing a biology paper presumably for a biology class, no?

I generally started papers with an introductory paragraph setting forth the points I would be making, as well as the whole intent of the paper. So, since my thing was writing, and not biology, that's where I'd start. Also, if you have to give references (which you should if you're pulling information from anywhere) be smart about the sites you quote. Wikipedia generally looks bad in a bibliography. :D

yeah i have the book, but i've read the book cover to cover and it did not state the process in any depth just pretty much stated the title of it then moved on. and yes this is for my Bio class.

yeah we need about 5 ref. but true i had forgotten about not using wikipedia as one, thanks for the heads up on that one.

Don't know why you think its major/strength dependent. You'll have plenty more papers to do.. oh wait. business major.. maybe not.. anyway.

I always just found a book or section of a book on the subject.. BAM there's my outline.
THen keep going from book to book (website etc) adding in things where they fit, making the info fit the outline.

Wiki would probably be the source of an outline now a days. If you can't use them as a source, you can still use them as a source of organizing your info. And they'll have a bibliography at the bottom with some 30 references for you to steal.

Its a paper not a thesis.
