Well , in a highly depressing development , today I discovered the two baby hummingbirds had both died . I last checked on them Monday and hadn't been back to the site till today , I think mom may have perished too and the babies never got fed , they were both still in the nest

That sucks. Anything odd this year? Did you get normal precip?

Other posters, cool shots. The red shoulder is awesome Kevin, and Lisa, I didn't even know there is a horned lark. Very cool.

awwww so sad to hear about your hummingbirds, OZ! :(
Just uploaded some bird photos from here in Ecuador. So far i havent seen too many different species, which is a bit surprising, but I'll see a loooot more the week after next in Mindo during my banding expedition.
Notable species: Black-tailed Trainbearer (didnt get a great pic of her, unfortunately) Sparkling Violetear (following a nest in the courtyard of my apartment, the two chicks are flying around but still beg for food from mom), Vermillion Flycatcher, Rufous-collared Sparrow (eeeeverywhere), and some nesting blue-and-white swallows that look exactly like tree swallows except for black undertail coverts.
I need to go photograph the violetears with my nice camera before they leave the courtyard, but here are some pics from my point and shoot:

:( Was it mom that you rescued from your shop last week?

Caption: "MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! MOM! ..."

Very cool - LOVE that iridescent colors of those birds!

    Thanks guys!

Hahaha, perfect! Yeah they're super iridescent! I was surprised that even the green is.
Off to Mindo for my bird trip tomorrow!! I'm super excited! Hopefully I get some good bird shots! I'll post what I get in like 2 and a half weeks.
    Until then, Good birding, all!

Just got back from Yellowstone...only notable bird sighting was the one hurdling towards my windshield on the interstate  As soon as I realized he wasn't gaining altitude and a collision was unavoidable my only thought was "my window isn't even a month old!!!!" Surprisingly there was no damage.

Not a lot of birds around here lately - too hot I think.

This little guy kept me company out camping this weekend. He was flying from one tree to another catching bugs...which was just fine with me because they were eating me alive and I couldn't swat at them fast enough!
