So I actually candled the eggs yesterday. All of them have a air gap taking up approximately 1/3 of the egg and the rest was a fairly dense substance. I couldn’t see any particular mass or embryo/chic. The substance didn’t seem to move when rotating the egg.

It’s been nearly 8 weeks since we first saw the eggs which should take no longer than 3 weeks to incubate.

Mother is getting skinny but persisting with trying to incubate.

I’m probably going to give it another week, otherwise I’m going to intervene and remove the eggs so she can get on with life and get the next clutch going… also the. I don’t have to keep moving the bbq away from the nest!

I concur, I’m a full time photographer and have full faith in Nikon quality.

The biggest potential problem with glass is mold and dust. Paying good money for weather sealed will pay for it’s self in time…

    Nice! Awesome job!!
Longtime Flyfisher! But have educated many biologists on quite a few rivers due to there lack of understanding. You can’t get behaviorism from a book or a electro probe, it comes from time on the water. Many years ago I have ventured/explored the southern reaches of mykiss and have heard the stories of mini’s in the streams off of Baja. But I truly enjoy the environs of the giants in British Columbia, where dreams are made and the feeling of the wild west lastly remains. Is your employer corporate or government?

Don’t want to sound pretentious here, let me elaborate. Flyfishing leads to observing behavior and evoking a reaction, certain rivers have unique ones. Also studying the topography of a drainage, it’s migration channels, it’s aquatic insects (flyfishing turns you into a backyard entomologist), its PH, temp and salinity levels, time of year/angle of sun, what other fish species are in the drainage and a host of other facets that I can go on with. Time on the River familiarizes with its ecosystem (I feel fisherman exceed in hours, days that turn into years spent on drainages), not to mention with all the trial and error of fooling the sliver ghost to strike.
