Finishing our weekend out in Mammoth. Going to see Star Wars tonight and have a nice dinner and drinks. Heading to thousand oaks tomorrow for Christmas at my parents.

What did we learn? Have recovery tools, get a 4wd, a chick that is cool and enjoys adventure, and don't get too close to a ditch.

    TacomaWorld is the greatest.

Hahaha! Glad you guys have a sense of humor too.

Now, when the next thread debating “should I buy a 2wd or 4wd” pops up, you’ll have great street cred to answer with!

I dunno man...next time I'm in CA you take me out there and get your truck down in that same ditch and I want to try to drive it out lol. It looks totally doable. But then I've offroaded a ton.

In a 4x4 yeah sure but a 2wd with an open rear diff? Can get those stuck in wet grass.

The guy just couldn’t get traction, that’s all it came down to- heck, with traction and careful finesse, you can go lots of places. I successfully drove this road back in ‘79 when I was a high school senior with my friend in his dad’s Vista Cruiser station wagon! We didn’t have the clearance, but we had the traction, along with the luck of a couple dumb kids! (Old Dale Road, Joshua Tree NP).

    Site suggestion:

A subforum for successful recoveries where we can place all these awesome stories. First ones that come to mind are:

    The Miller Jeep Trail rescue:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/recovered-bottom-of-miller-jeep-trail-socal.456064/
    (Thanks @MonkeyProof and @Imtaconico )

And the now famous spindle failure:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/another-spindle-failure-backcountry-dv.473931/
    (Thanks @goblue82 and @Mach375 )

It'd be good to keep these organized as a reminder of how a community of (for the most part) strangers can come together to help eachother.

Well, had to quit beer due to Type II diabetes (carbs), up side to that was losing 45 pounds. Wife is disabled so the taller truck just didn't work.

Now I do got enough insurance money covering her......
