Sweet! It's pretty straight forward. I did the conversion on my 01 Prerunner, worth every penny!

I love it, I am currently making a divider thing for the inside to keep my golf clubs and fishing pole and tackle box from sliding around and spilling in the bed. they will be put on top of my wheel wells to keep space for anything i need to haul in between the wheel wells.

I can't wait till I do mine. One handy tool I have is that my next door neighbor is a mechanic and will hopefully give me some help, or give me some necessary tools or something. How much did it cost you for the parts?

I just sprayed the rims with Plasti dip. Then i sprayed my fender flares, front bumper, rear bumper, lower tailgate, and rocker panels all in bed liner. It turned out really good. Ill post pics tomorrow.

Thats what I'm talkin' about! It isn't that bad and I'm just guessing that everyone saying that it is a pain in the ass has never done so much as looked into it. Check out my build thread, I have most of the info that you will need. The pre-runner has the exact same suspension set up as the 4x4 and it has all the points to bolt in the front diff... pretty hard huh? Worst part is just finding stuff, just keep you eyes out and have money in hand!

I haven't siphoned through all the posts here, but I just traded in my 2001 DC PreRunner for a 2010 DC 4x4. If you do choose to invest in converting your prerunner to 4wd, you will generate a lot of interest with a build thread. I figured it would have been more work than it was worth, but didn't actually go through the steps to confirm that. My guess is that $1,500 is too low. I would guesstimate in the $8,000-$10,000 range after all is said and done.

    Looking forward to your decision.

You could SAS it for that price. I would guess about half that. Go to the junkyard and find some good deals. Nice truck by the way! One suggestion, ditch the BL while you can. I do not like mine for the things I plan on doing with my truck. There is a gap between my front bumper that I cant stand. I put it on to get my rear bumper to fit and as soon as I can find another bumper Im ditching the BL. Just my opinion, nice truck! keep us updated on the conversion!

That price would be if you were SASing it. A 4wd conversion is expensive but not that expensive, especially if you do all the work yourself.

I had 2300 in mine, but I completely re-did the front diff, seals, new bearings, etc... and i paid someone to do the labor part. One of our customers that does a lot of SAS projects went on a limb and trusted me when I told him that it should be bolt on. Worth every penny

I have tube steps that are sprayed with bed liner. So they will somewhat act like sliders, just a really weak version.

I did not say it would be 8-10k. I guessed it would be around half that. Just want to make sure we are clear on that.

That is very true my friend. The conversion will only happen if i have the money to do it before my senior year starts. After it starts, ill be saving up for college. So this summer is basically all or nothing.
