Taking a month long expedition across America in a few weeks, and will be pulling a 416 style trailer behind my 4runner. To those who have done BBP, is this road passable with a trailer? I am quite proficient at backing and turning with the trailer.

    Your advice is appreciated.

It is not, no way you can maneuver the Switchbacks (Trailer would need to more than Jack Knife).

I will try and find pic

Best I can find, even Jeeps have to reverse a few of the switchbacks (ie 3 point turn).

I should add you can drop the trailer and BBP in and Imogene Pass (Actually my favorite pass in CO) it out all in a day.

Just keep throwin' money at it.
Agreed. Its narrow and tight turns. I would leave it in Ouray at camp and come back. Its a less than a day trip. But totally worth it. Its a technical trail only due to the drop in at the top and the tight switchbacks. Its a fun one though.

It is one way only, for one day (August ?) each year (due to the Wild Bunch 4x4 Club of Montrose, Colorado) it flips and it's one way out of Telluride.

Just to add my two cents, no way with a trailer. As Steve mentioned, it is a one-way trail, running east to west down into Telluride. Depending on where you camp and which side you start on as to where you could drop or leave the trailer. I personally would not take a trailer over Imogene either, but partway up either side would be fine (note there are very limited camping opportunities off Imogene, but on the west/Telluride side is kind of perfect for a trailer camp since it's an old mine site and leveled tailings - crappy spot for tents, but much better for a trailer). People typically take either Imogene or Ophir passes to make a loop with Black Bear as one leg (trailer or no trailer), but you can also drive the long way around on highway in about the same amount of time or less depending on traffic.

    Also o_O

Please note: This trail is difficult and here is a list of minimal equipment that you will need to successfully complete it.
    1. At least a rear locker.
    2. 35" tires.

It can be done with less but do you really want your buddy dragging you up the hill?

I did it down hill open diffs and on 32's a few years ago. I get some of the climbs being a bit hard, but I think its doable with far less than a locker and 35's.

Are you talking about Black Bear?

I've done it in my '90 Bronco with 33s and open diffs and my '98 Tacoma stock with 31s (with rear locker that I'm pretty sure I never used).

I have never done BBP but i think he was referencing if you want to join the club to drive up the pass you need those requirements but not to drive down. I dont know.

FYI Everyone- not his remarks, he is just quoting the Wild Bunch 4x4 group's requirements (for Reverse run maybe?)

Correct, which is why I quoted the link the first time, and the bug eye emoji, indicating I think it is wonky.

Back in the day the road was 2 way, the mines were operation into the 70's.
Even more astounding, back then in Tohellyouride one could get a burger, fries and drink without bank financing.

Just got back from an Ouray trip yesterday. Did many of the trails out there but did not do the switchbacks on BBP. Personally, i would leave the trailer at camp for everything. Some of the other roads are narrow and passing space is very limited. You're getting into peak season so traffic will be high. Leaving the trailer will make your life 1000x easier and you will have more fun not worrying about it.
