Black/brown substance underneath rear seats?

So first off, I’m pretty new to trucks, and vehicles in general. So I apologize if this is a stupid question. But what could this substance be? It’s right underneath my rear passenger seats, first picture is where the Jack is stored, and it leaks all the way down to the front passenger door side panel. Just like the one pictured above. Any ideas? Anybody know of any tutorials showing how to remove the carpet and all else needed so that I can clean everything up?

 

Looks like someone spilled a couple of coffees or cokes in there. Did you purchase the truck recently? Maybe the previous owner tossed a few Dunkins on the floor before trading it in?

I’ve had it for a little while now. It’s strange because the seat has no stains on it that I can see.

 

I did. It doesn’t have a strong smell at all.

 

To remove the carpet, you'll need to remove everything attached to the floor.

Try cleaning with a water and dish soap solution first. Then work to more aggressive cleaners.

If its coffee or soda, water/soap will handle it. May need to "soak" it a bit before wiping up.

 

What does it taste like?

 

Speaking as one who details used cars at a Toyota dealership for a living, it could be just about anything. You simply would not believe what kind of crap folks leave in cars they turn in - particularly leased vehicles. You also wouldn't believe what I can get out with an extractor. That doesn't mean everything that soaked through the upholstery or carpet comes out though. Try some All Purpose Cleaner on it.

FWIW, I have found Simple Green to be a good all-purpose cleaner.

I use it straight from the spray bottle, no dilution.

 

Is it sticky? Looks like Coke to me, or some sort of cola

 

Spittoon spillage

 

I’m starting to think it’s soda. But it doesn’t make sense to me, I don’t have any stains on my seat that are noticeable that could have indicated somebody dropping/spilling some shit in my backseat.

I’ll check it out. I just have to remove everything from my truck now to clean every last bit of it. It’s killing me knowing somehow under my seats have sticky/sludge shit everywhere.

 

If that was in my truck......

No tasting, no smelling, wear rubber gloves, begin with water/soap, then Simple Green, then ......Gumout,.......Acetone.....Sand paper....paint over it......HazMat folks.....

 

I’ll keep this in mind. And I was joking with those other guys. I was going to tell him to fuck off but I thought I’d just be nice and friendly about it instead.

 

Are you concerned that it goes further under the carpet?
If the smell isn't much, I would clean what you can and see what that does. Hard to say what it is since it wouldn't come from any stock portion of the truck. Hopefully you can figure it out. Main thing it doesn't smell of anything bad.
