Black cap on Red Tacoma???

What kind of rack do you have on the canopy?

 

Yakima tracks. Holes for the factory-mounted tracks were there when I bought it, but the tracks themselves had been kept by a previous owner.

 

See, that looks good. You can get away with black. Any other color not so sure..

 

My next door neighbor has a white contractor cap on his silver 2nd gen Tundra and he used to have the same cap on his gold 1st gen Tundra. I've always thought it looked funny. Maybe it's just that I'm accustomed to color-matched caps.

 

I tend to be a little anal about stuff like this so I had to find a Barcelona red cap to match my '15 and I finally did find a 6 month old used ARE on Craigslist for $800. This is the only pic that I can find at the moment...

I like the soft camper shells that are black, I would put that on any color truck but with a hard shell..i would have to have it matching. just my $0.02

 

black goes with everything. thats my plan for a bed cap find one for a good price and paint it flat black, then maybe paint the fender flares to match.

Wouldn't be my choice but definately wouldn't be hideous. I would have it painted, so for me it would depend on your definition of what a good buy is. If it was $500, definately a good buy with room to paint it. I had a 100r and I paid under $1000 new in 2006, I'm guessing that cap is now $1100 new???? I have a 100XL on my 2014. One thing that I like in the XL vs the R is the height of the front of the cap, not to mention the rear glass. I think that the XL is closer to the correct cab height.

'Cause here in Canada, a new R is 2200$.
I got a rebuild Black R for 1400$ tx incl.
In Canadian $$ of course, so about 900 USD.

 

Other than a utility cap like @yesmar posted; it's gotta be paint matched.

 

When faced with buying a used cap that does not match and thereby saving money that can be used for other pursuits as opposed to buying a matching cap that costs more, we in Maine refer to that as a "no brainah." Nuff said.
