BLACK FRIDAY — the frenzied shopping event the day after Thanksgiving - has become a national phenomenon.
As stores do battle in their price wars, consumers wage their own fight to make sure they get their hands on the best promotions.
If you plan to participate in such a frenetic, feverish day, it's good to come prepared.
In the past couple of years, a number of apps have been created to advise Black Friday shopping hordes of where the best deals are, often even before they've had the chance to flip through retailers' advertising circulars. Others offer tips on how to manage your early morning shopping marathon.
Here are a few. Please note that leaked ads may or may not be sanctioned by the retailer and may or may not be the actual deal the retailer is offering.
TGI Black Friday: This free iPhone and Android app allows you to search Black Friday deals for every major retail store, including leaked ads. It also has features that allow you to create a shopping list and to compare prices to make sure you're getting the best deal.
Black Friday Survival Guide: This app is free on iPhones and Android phones. It alerts you when any major Black Friday news or any new leaked ads are posted online.
Black Friday App: Dealnews.com, which is seen as a good source of information on Black Friday, created this free iPhone app. It, too, offers a list of deals, each of which is "hand-picked" by the Dealnews editors. It also has a countdown to Black Friday and allows you to share deals through Twitter, Facebook and e-mail.
M.GEappliances.com: While not an app, GE has created a mobile version of its website to help Black Friday and holiday shoppers look for appliances, promotions and rebates. The new website was created on Nov. 12; the company said it purposefully launched it in time for Black Friday.
