Another small update. I reached out to another manufacturer today. Been going back and forth with them. They are getting me pricing to. Hopefully tonight? Anyway I just sent them the measurements. I'll check my email after I post here. Trying to see if they will do separate molds for each emblem or one giant mold with them all in it. If they do each mold separate and it doesn't raise the cost any or much at all, I'll be able to individually sell each emblem and piece together separate kits. However don't get your hopes up because I have a feeling they will want more money for doing that. Lol but it may end up being offset a little by the MOQ (minimum order quality). Hopefully I find out soon! Until then, keep on keeping on, staying tuned. Lol

    Cheers!

There won't be a TRD emblem available from me. However tons online. I don't think any full black ones. Perhaps down the road this is something I could look into. Problem is the molds cost a lot to make. And I would have to order a bunch of them and hope to sell them all. It would take awhile. A lot of risk involved in that. Plus with how many TRD emblems are available I don't think my pricing on them would be competitive.

The sport and OR only have 3 different emblems (Toyota emblem, Tacoma emblem and the V6. While I could get those produced and they would sell, it would cost a lot more to make a SR5 kit. Then I would have to buy a large quantity of each. I'm sure I could sell all the sport and OR kits but I don't think I would sell much of the SR5 kits. Adding the SR5 and 4x4 emblems to a Sport/Or/SR kit doesn't increase the cost much and also give everyone the option of having a 4x4 emblem. They can put it on their truck if they like, or put it on a tool box or something cool in the garage. You could also try and sell the ones you don't use and recoup some of your money back.

So in terms of only needing to order a certain quantity, and only needing to stock one kit to take care of 4 trims, I found this to make the most sense. I understand some guys may only want or need the Tacoma badges. For them this kit may not make sense unless I can offer it at a low enough price. I am in talks with a different manufacturer while I'm waiting to get pricing from the original manufacturer. If it's possible for me to use a separate mold for the Tacoma emblems or after the molds are made if it's possible to just manufacture the Tacoma emblems than I'll definitely make an order of just those.

Also like I've said before, I know there are a few guys who have the SR5's or maybe even an SR who want to replicate an SR5, that want only those emblems. I may be able to break up a few kits and part out. That would leave a few Tacoma emblems to be purchased separately.

I should have more into/pricing late tonight or tomorrow morning. Once I do, I'll tag everyone in the thread whose left a post. If of course this all makes financial sense and I'm going to place an order. Stay tuned!

Dealing with overseas suppliers takes time. A lot of time. It's not for the ADHD folks.

Remember when we'd go through a paper catalog, fill out a paper order form and send it off with a paper check? Then in a few weeks we got our order?

Now I can order something on Amazon PrimeNow and a guy hands it to me in under two hours.

    How the world has changed.

No, unfortunately. The new distributor told me Friday I would have pricing next Monday. I wasn't sure if he meant this upcoming Monday (today) or the following. So guessing he meant the following. I just emailed the first company I was in talks with to find out if they have came up with anything yet. Hopefully I'll have a reply in a few minutes. I'm getting impatient as well.

On a brighter note I seen someone's truck who derped (plastidip) their emblems. Personally I didn't care much for it. Especially the grille. Just looked super cheap and had a dullness I didn't like. The emblems didn't looks as bad as the grille, but I still wouldn't want them on my personal truck. This is definetly going to be with it if the price is right.

Again, I'll keep everyone update as I know more. Hopefully not much longer

You are right and I'm learning this the hard way. Lol. I wish there was a local supplier or someone who might be able to do this. My sisters boyfriend works for a injection mold company perhaps they could. I could ask. However we all know stuff made here cost a lot more. Not sure it will be feasible unless I save a lot on the shipping costs

Then there's the whole intellectual property thing. Not to be Dickhead Downer but be very cautious of your capital outlay; our sense of right and wrong regarding designs and I.P. ownership doesn't necessarily apply everywhere. So many eBay sellers shipping various camera accessory design knock offs from China it's sad for folks like Really Right Stuff who make some great things.

Yep, and I have a feeling they will be selling my items after they are produced as they have the molds. I've seen emblems on sites for sale that they produced. So I'm guessing someone did as exactly as I did. And then they end up making a batch up themselves and selling. My guess is they know they can sell for a lot less then I will be able to. Their problem is marketing. However I'm sure some will make there way to eBay eventually. Since I'm not trying to make a killing on these I guess we'll see what happens. Obviously if I can't make money in my investment then this doesn't make sense for me to do. I'm not a business man but I know I need to start thinking like one. I'm the one taking all the risk. Hell for all I know these could be fake company's and just some type of scam. I'll do all I can to protect my investment and my product.

Back to your previous comment, production time is about 2-3 weeks she said. So it defiently is a long process. Shipping will be air luckily however I'm sure that's going to cost a pretty penny. Everything is cheaper coming off the boat! So for everyone looking for these tomorrow, it's not going to happen. It's still going to be a lot of tomorrow's. Even if I can find a local company, who may be able to start production immediately, it's still going to take some time.

I found a company in Utah who produces custom emblems. Not sure yet if they can do black, but I sent them all the info. Good thing about this supplier is they are AMERICAN! :oldglory: Also he doesn't have a minimum order. If they product each emblem separately, I can order more of the Tacoma emblems and sell everything separately. Also I'll be able to have Limited emblems made! They may be a bit more since I wouldn't be ordering as much but they would be available and wouldn't increase the cost of any other kits/emblems. I'm hoping they can be competitive, as I'd much rather keep business here in the good ole USA.

The lead time is still the same, however they send me sample renderings, final renderings, and then a sample. It will be good to have product in hand before I fully commit. Although 50% is due before that point. I feel more comfortable than sending a couple of grand to China and not seeing the finished product until it all comes in. Atleast that's how I believe it works with the companies there.

Anyways stay tuned. I should have pricing from someone soon! :proposetoast:

    Update:

Just got a quote back from the second company I reached out to. They broke the kit into 3 molds. This increased the price. I was expecting a full quote with all shipping, and any taxes included. However they just gave me the mold fees and the unit cost. I came up with a calculated estimate on my own and added some additional unknown expenses into that figure. I'm still currently within that figure. As it stands currently the full retail price WOULD be as follows:

Full kit (7 piece set) includes: (1) Toyota grill emblem, (2) Tacoma door emblems, (1) 4x4 emblem, (1) V6 emblem, (2) SR5 emblems

    Price: $99

This is subject to change ( higher or lower) depending on the 2 other quotes I am currently awaiting. These are not currently for sale and wouldn't be for a few weeks, If I decide to have them produced.

They have the molds split. The first mold is the Toyota grill emblem. The second mold is the Tacoma door emblems. The 3rd and final mold is the 4x4, V6 and SR5. This means on my second batch, IF I sell out, and place another order, I would be able to individually sell the emblems in those offerings.

As stated in still waiting to receive quotes from the other 2 companies. There seems to be pro's and cons to each manufacture. Once I receive a quote from all 3, I choose the one I believe will have the biggest benefit in terms of offering and price. I know a lot of people only would like certain emblems, so if I can provide this, at a reasonable price, this is my ultimate goal! I think this complete kit is already a bargain set at the current retail price. Just the Toyota emblem and Tacoma emblems would probably cost that from Toyota.

Stay tuned as I will have more info and final pricing available soon!

Remember this isn't even lawfarin's IP anyway, it is Toyota's. I think they have bigger fish to fry, but something to think about there as well, if they wanted to come after you they could.

Reasonable point, after all we remember what happened with the Purrari...

Really, my thought there was simply a caution not to invest a lot of money into this expecting future returns, as there's no real stopping the shop from turning out their own copies from the mold he bought and selling them on ebay.

IMHO it really doesn't matter -- right or wrong, if Toyota were to decide to send a C&D letter he's all done. Not worth the lawyer/court expenses.
