Black indoor door panel scratches / scuffs

Hey Folks - any decent remedy for scratching up the door panel plastic? It seems to scratch if I just look at it funny. Any kind of spray or anything I can use to diminish the scratches? The dashboard plastic seems really strong and scratch resistant. The door plans and other black plastic area around the seats seem like total crap aesthetically because they don’t hold up. Thoughts and suggestions?

 

In for a response as well. my driver side door is scarred up pretty bad.

 

I bet you there’s some product out there that would work about 80% of the way. I’ve heard people using heat guns but I don’t want to do that.

I use 303 Protectant and it definately helps. I usually use a cleaner like Simple Green or an equivalent and then the 303 Protectant. It looks much better! https://www.goldeagle.com/product/303-aerospace-protectant/

 

I noticed my friends ‘16 doesn’t scratch as easily as my ‘21. Like its amazing how the lightest rub will cause scuffs and scratches. Even vacuuming the transmission hump / footwell area leaves scrapes from the plastic vac head . Its also totally different than my 2nd gen was for its durability .

Im over it now that mine is a year old, but sheesh Toyota… And don’t get me started on gauge cluster plastic either..

Yea I have it too. Thing is I'm pretty easy on the truck in general. Tried cleaning over and over finally gave up on it.

 

If the scratches aren’t that deep you can use a heat gun . I had a few scratches and the heat gun blended them right away

 

My 2018 is trashed. The trim panels in the 2nd gen were solid. I use Chemical guys VRP and it works well. It lasted so far like 3 months. I am going to touch it up over the weekend. Do not use globs if this stuff as it will look super greasy

 

There is a black shoe dye I used and will post a pic later. I dabbed some on a qtip and blended perfectly. Then a nice plastic dressing and its been 4 years and I've never seen it again. I have posted it on here before but will get a pic up later.

 

Better protect your dash instrument cluster plastic while you’re at it.

 

I have found that the old simoniz original paste wax works wonders on the plastic cluster. Mine in 4 years old and new looking still. Gotta use a baby diaper, not a micro fiber rag.

 

Yeah mine are scratched up too, guess I'll try what was suggested here since I have everything mentioned. The plastic Toyota used is worse than craplastic Ford used in in the 80's. I'm honestly afraid to wipe my door panels down with a soft cloth

 

If to bad, you can sand, paint and clear coat them, even use filler. I had a '67 Camaro that I did that too (beyond repair and not worth buying replacement parts) it cleaned up really nice and was less susceptible to damage.
Another idea for longevity would be to coat them with fiberglass, damned near indestructible.

 

Actually I do! I have a 2022 Tacoma that has black door panels. I have fins scratches on the inside that I have tried almost everything.

But I found on Amazon, bought in black, just a small amount on a microfiber and then wipe off. The next day in the sun, scratches are gone and cannot tell where I touched up or where it was not scratched. Sometimes you have to think outside of the box.

Do you just apply it to the scratches or the whole panel?

 

I read some people are using magic eraser on scratches. It may not remove all but it did make it look better.
