We've got a female yellow lab and I've found her much easier than males. She was a nut as a puppy but I've never had a dog that loved to ride in a truck so much. She'll do 12 hour trips and loves it! She also loves water year round, regardless of how cold it is. She is my favorite dog ever. By the way, when I fish she sits by my feet watching the water for as long as I'm willing to stay. Then she'll wade in and 'fish' on her own.

Thought of something else I do with a pup. Getting use to loud noises.

Labs are great chow hounds, so when eating I would clap my hands once or twice. If I get no reaction I will slowly get louder over time. I will get to the point of banging two food bowls then go to cap gun outside from where they eat. Then move to cap gun outside when playing. Eventually the 22 blanks on to primer loads when hot after a bumper.

You take your time now and the next several months you wont have a gun-shy dog. Some people go at it to fast and wonder why the dog is gun-shy.

My girls know when the gun is out fun is going to happen.
Love sitting in the blind with one my dogs.

Here she is. Crappy blackberry pic but it should do.

Does anyone know the symptoms of colds or fevers for dogs? I'm gonna google it but I thought I'd ask you guys too. She has more eye gunk than I'd consider normal and sometimes coughs like she is trying to hack something up. Vet said she is okay but that was after like a 7 minute check up....so idk. Am I over reacting?

Yes they do it's easy to let them get there too. I remember when I was a kid going hunting pheasant hunting with my dad and I haven't got a shot all day and I wanted to shoot something. He let me shoot a stump and my dog was about 50 feet behind me and I shot the stump and he in front of us looking for the bird. After looking for about 5 mins not finding a bird he looks at me like "wtf you miss for". When I was also in elementary school he used to visit me during recess. His name was Houdini and just say his name fit.

I wouldn't worry to much about the eye gunk. I hope you enjoy her she's a pretty black lab and looks like she is energetic like most healthy labs are. If you want to get treats for her get some pigs ears to help clean their teeth they are better for them than rawhide bones.

Ive had a yellow lab as a K9 partner for 11 yrs now. She has been the best dog that Ive ever owned! The dog will only be as good as the owner/handler trains them to be. Its kinda like having a 2 yr old child with you at all times. If you put the time into it, the dog will be smarter than most humans and 10 times more loyal! Myself, I prefer the females, as they tend to be less hyper and concentrate on the task at hand. Where as the males, tend to be more aggressive and if the slightest scent of "in season" comes by then all bets are off, cause then their train of thought is in reference to one "thing"! LOL.

I'm glad you got one! She looks like a great pup!! As for the health I wouldn't worry to much until she starts acting different. If she starts having a no energy and just lays around then I would have her checked out. It's vary easy to over worry with puppys and the eye junk is just her allergies. Oh and Congrats!!
