The “wax like” substance is yellowish in color. They put it where 2 parts of frame are sandwiched together.

That actually looks like rubberized paint which is horrible. Worst part is that it seems like messy painted too, there is NO way it came like that from factory. its all over the place, its on exhaust and even on transmission, what a mess.

To be honest If I were you, I would ask for other Tacoma. Who knows what else they did. I understand coating but like that's all over the place. Which means, they may did or do poor job doing other tasks too.

If that rubberized bs already trapped some moisture inside, I am sure its matter of time before it rusts.

Wow, I would not be happy with that even for “free”. It looks they did a really crappy job with a coating that could trap moister and salt beneath it. I would consider having a talk with them about removing it or finishing the job completely on the missing spots, clean off the shit they shouldn’t have applied it to….I’d ask for extended frame warranty because it will eventually fail well before the truck and you’ll be stuck fluid filming anyway.

So much butt hurt in here. The coating could be perfectly fine and just applied sloppily with overspray. That wouldn’t be surprising in the least if you live somewhere that these coatings are common. It can’t be any worse than the frame that was already going to rust out before the rest of the truck was dead anyway. Coat it with fluid film in your driveway and call it a day.

If it were mine, I would accept it as is and Fluid Film, Woolwax or Surface Shield just as if there was nothing on it to begin with as it was straight from the factory. I would think that the Fluid Film or the like would help keep the rubberized undercoating stay soft and it would seep into areas that water could infiltrate to protect the metal behind the coating. You would then have multiple layers of protection. I definitely would not leave it as is, supplement it with SOMETHING. I have a 2003 Tacoma with 291K miles and the frame looks like a gooey mess due to my annual coating of Fluid Film, but it has no rust.

Get the truck up on some ramps and pressure wash the underside. If it comes off ,great, let it dry then fluid film it. If it doesn't come off it's probably good to go.

Nope. The dealer undercoating traps moisture and will rust out your frame faster than if you had no undercoating at all. Removing it is expensive because it gums up any wire wheel it touches. Dry ice blasting can remove it, at a cost of ~$1500.

Can trap moisture, not does trap moisture. Done properly it works well.

It does trap moister when it fails, creating places for moisture and salt to get beneath it. That is a when, not if. That job was clearly not done "properly" in the first place. I can see bare metal voids in areas that are coated, and overspray over things that should not be coated. That was an attempt to upsell a product and likely a BS warranty that would never be honored by having a tech spray some shit all over the bottom of a new truck. OP didn't want to pay for the product upsell, so they "gave it away" because they only had tech time and a very low cost in material (if any).

Run away, it WILL crack and then rust severely under the coating while lifting it away from the steel and keeping moisture [and salt] against the steel long after the frame has dried out.

    Do it, do it.

And do it yearly. And don't just do your frame, have your whole truck sprayed. That is the best protection.

I go to Krown Rustproofing and it drips like a sonabitch for almost a week. This way I know it's gotten into every crevice known to mankind, and more...

    Oh god this video again…

Clearly this was applied over rust multiple times.

If the frame is new, its prepped and coating is applied properly then there is no issue. I’ve had vulcanized rubber since my truck was new and my frame looks mint, except for couple spots where it gets peppered with rocks.

Agreed. It is also not a rubberized undercoating as so many experts on here are proclaiming. It is a very good undercoating that is pretty hard and if done on a new vehicle will last a lifetime. SMH

Mine still looks great almost 6 years later…

That never happens unless it's a cab-off restoration type deal. And even then the coating still cracks with road debris. The cracks start right at the cab mount area that incidentally is also the most vulnerable to corrosion. Your truck is 5 years old. Give it a couple more years and you'll be peeling pieces of rust off the frame. :) Timeline matches my experience with my 2nd gen.

This whole thing of having to go through a dealer to buy a new vehicle is getting a bit boring. This sort of crap is one of many reasons for doing away with these scumbags.
