Black RTV marks on dash

My truck has that putrid-brown interior, and I made some marks in it I can't get out.

Used black RTV to keep my radar detector mount stuck to the dash. Stuck like nobody's business, but now the detector died and I have three black dots on the dash.

Tried: Goof Off, Goo Gone, GoJo, Goop, denatured alcohol, Icy Hot, interior cleaner, Armor All, and Bacardi. Nothing touched them. In fact I think I heard them laughing at me.

Any ideas? Short of painting the damn dash black?

 

What about a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? or getting a new spiffy dash?

 

Not a bad idea on the Mr Clean, cheap and easy to find.

I'm gonna run out there and try that right now. Back in a second.

 

Sprayed it with WD, rubbed right away with a white rag and a little black came off! Got the spots soaking in it right now, maybe by morning, hopefully....

 

Crap! yeah i forgot about wd40!

 

3M makes a spray can used to remove tar, bug splatter, and adhesive. Try it out.

 

just wrote that down, if the WD don't get it off, back to advance auto i go. thanks!

 

just found on-line DAP makes a silicone remover that is "safe for most surfaces". I've seen a few silicone removers but they all say not recommended for soft plastics (like dashboards).

 

So, it's not laughing so hard anymore!

Just went out to the truck during a commercial and wiped the WD40 off. Didn't work.

It's hammerin' time!

 

I have never tried this but you might want to try a clay bar. I would first try it on a piece of trim that is out ot view to see if it mars the trim at all.

I have used a clay bar on a lot of different things it it works most of the time.

I fixed them.

I put my GPS mount on top of them.
