I've noticed that a lot of the new Tacoma's have black trim over the wheel wells? Do they scratch up pretty easily and are they replaceable if they do?

Not a hard core off roader and mostly go on hikes or camping so not sure it would affect me but wanted to ask just in case since I'm doing a bit of research on the Tacoma.

Yes mine are scratched up pretty well. You can replace but if I did it again I would clear wrap them first

Super prone to getting chipped up by road debris. Get better mud flaps…

They do get pretty dinged up. But, in time, you just forget about it. The first ding, the first scratch, the first chip, those are the worst. The next 10,000 are easier.

Is replacing them just a matter of pulling them off and putting on new ones? And if they are removable can you just pull them off in general so everything is one color?

I suppose it's all relative. Haven't a clue as to the work involved in removing them. I can't imagine it's terribly technical considering that you can buy larger ones from Rough Country that people seem to install with ease. Mine are already dinged up with just 4000 miles on the truck, but I don't really notice it anymore.

Factory flared trucks have different fenders and would look horrible without.

I guess I'm confused. Why would Toyota put easily scratchable black trim over the wheel wells on an expensive truck like this?

Pinstriped mine pretty good! Magic eraser fixed about 95% of the scratches on the plastic trim, I’m the only one that notices what’s left.

Does the Magic Eraser remove the excess wax residue on the black fender trim resulting from waxing the painted surfaces next to them?

I've found this 3M product works extremely well for light scratches (pin stripes) on painted surfaces.
Friend that paints show cars for a living alerted me to it.

Not easy to find and expensive though. I've used it by hand appliction with amazing results.

Also renewed the painted surfaces one of my vehicles that got sand blasted in a freak wind storm in the sand dunes of Glamis (southern CA).

I apply 303 to the black plastic trim BEFORE waxing. The excess wax on the trim easily wipes off.

I'll give some of the 303 a try.
